Anonymous(25-29)+1 yMy best friend in middle and high school was Muslim. She's sweet. She's in medical school now.
I don't know a huge amount about the religion. That wasn't what we spent most of our time talking about. It's Abrahamic. I know that Islam comes from Ishmael and Judaism (and subsequently Christianity) from Isaac. I know that traditionally, Muslim people aren't supposed to draw faces. I think it has something to do with idolatry. I know a little about the divide between Sunni and Shia branches of the religion, and it reminds me a little bit of the history between Catholics and Protestants. I also went to a few social events at her mosque.
Some people at my school were awful to her because of her religion. Her locker got graffitied once, and a substitute teacher once called her a terrorist. It was ridiculous. She's probably the nicest person I've ever met. She's doing really well now though, and I'm happy for her.
People attach conspiracy theories to everything. That's how they reconcile them with their worldview. If the guy you know is connecting weird conspiracy theories to his religion, then it's because he's a conspiracy theorist, not because he's muslim. He would likely do the same thing with any other religion if he believed in it.10 Reply

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yI had a best friend that was Muslim. He was honestly more polite and respectful than most other religious/non religious men (though that was probably more of a cultural thing). He was a little unaware of more sexual/liberal topics, due to the forbidden nature of those topics in Islam, but that’s no different than Christians.
The religion follows the same basic beliefs as Christianity, it even has the same god. The difference is that where Christian’s consider Jesus to be the final messenger (and in certain cases the son of god/god incarnate), Muslims believe Mohammed to be the last messenger, and Jesus to have been just a human prophet.
Depending on where that person originates or what sect of Islam they believe, they may follow more strict doctrinal beliefs (like Catholics vs. Protestants, etc.), but really they are just normal people 🤷♀️13 Reply- +1 y
There's another factor that's a bit troubling.
Islam considers their scripture as literally the words of Allah while the Bible etc is the word of Gods messengers.
The difference is that the Bible is seen as written by someone flawed and might not 100% reflect Gods will, encouraging interpretation, something that helps make liberalism possible.
Both religions have liberal and conservative wings but it's harder to argue for a liberal view when suggestions of the scripture not perfectly reflecting your gods will is considered heretical, and worthy of a death penalty...
I wish Muhammed had had the foresight to make his words less bombastic...
Elements of Islam is better then Christianity.
And with more support for liberal theology...
Well, a lot of lives would have been a lot better, and society as a whole probably would have been in most countries.
Opinion Owner+1 yThere is nothing in religious scriptures that provides good foundations that cannot be offered through secular means. The religions are irrelevant, outside of the indoctrination and manipulation of masses.

Yes, I'm an atheist too...
But religion exists.
And it impacts peoples lives.
And while I don't believe in the religious part of the religions there's a lot of philosophical work and other forms of human wisdom that has been saved in religious works.
Christianity for instance formed in the aftermath of Alexander the great mixing cultures all over Asia, Europe and Africa.
Indian, Greek, Persian and Egyptian philosophy all mixing in the middle east.

The negative remarkable Islam experience:
—long extending poles with mirror on end that goes underneath each car to search automobile as a potential explosive device both in malls and grocery stores 💣 and lots of 🤯🤯🤯🤯.
-Songkhla, Hat Yai airport 💣 ✈️ 💣…in terminal…
-killing law enforcement.
—Thailand is next door to Malaysia so there’s lots of spill over. Jihad is real and there is no Peace or Assurance of Salvation in a religion that believes one can suicide 💣 him/herself into Heaven. And the outworking of Islam among people or women is horrific.13 Reply- +1 y
The best description of Islam and Muslim is in the book of Genesis. Gen 16:12 says, “He will be a wild donkey of a man, his hand against everyone and everyone’s hand against him; and he shall dwell over and against his kinsman.
—wild donkey of a man his hand (Islam Muslim)
—everyone’s hand against him (World Governments).
—dwell over and against his kinsman (tribal warfare amongst Sharia, Shiite, Kurds, Sunni).
Islam is NOT a Saving faith as it is spiritually Cursed. - +1 y
What’s scary is even Bin Laden wanted Biden to be President because he was aware of Biden’s disdain for American people. It was on YouTube and this was during Obama presidency. He told the Jihadist to get Obama but leave Biden healthy…. I’m not into the political, conspiracies etc SO I do not have anything to say about that…
FYI, there’s a question about Suffering which was offered by a Muslim…culturally Muslim at least. It’s on Religion section….
3.8K opinions shared on Religion & Spirituality topic. Whoa there deary. You sound like something from the 60's, and someone who still thinks separate Blacks and Whites water fountains aren't a problem.
The term you're looking for is "Muslim" not "Islamic". But don't panic just because they are Islamic. Catholic education is notorious for being old fashioned and ill informed about the wider world.
I would suggest you keep your views to yourself when speaking to your new "friend". It might be they are crazy, or just trying to say what they think someone like you wants to hear. Steer the conversation towards what you want to talk about.
As for your friend, I doubt they can differentiate between family, culture, nation, and religions teachings.01 Reply- +1 y
From the '60's? lol This guy just depicts things regarding COVID, the government, and the world as if it is on the verge of ending.. like a conspiracy theorist. But he incorporates his religion. I am just wondering how that is part of it? I am not racist if that's what ur insinuating? I love everyone.. except the Kardashians. lol

u +1 yI used to work with a... I guess quasi-practicing Muslim.
Honestly, I'm not sure what makes Islam unique. As a Catholic, I have the Body and Blood of Christ as the source and summit of my faith, so there's absolutely nothing that Islam could offer that's even remotely comparable.119 Reply- +1 y

Catholics pray to Mary and not Jesus
-I have catholic relatives, I know. Jesus doesn't need Mary as a bridge to Jesus to hear prayers.
Oh and as for the catholic church creating Islam, look it up, it's not that hard.

Typical and VERY WRONG! This is why the Catholic church is the beast and the pope is the Antichrist.
Exodus 20:3-17
#1Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
#2Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
#3Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
#4Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
#5Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
#6Thou shalt not kill.
#7Thou shalt not commit adultery.
#8Thou shalt not steal.
#9Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
#10Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's. - +1 y
The catholic church hates the 2nd commandment, otherwise they couldn't have all that idolatry and the popes throne, right out of the bible. It's not bad enough that the popes of Rome are known for wearing their triple crown that says vacarius filii dei that means vicar of Christ, as in replacement of Christ, but the description of God's throne in Heaven is best duplicated in the popes throne room in the Vatican.
I could go on and on. Want quotes and pictures, you probably seen the pics already though. - +1 y

What's the point in me asking?
Do catholics pray to Mary? That's an obvious yes? Why else would they all have Mary prayers and Mary statues, paper printings everywhere in their house? None of it is biblical.
It alone breaks the 1st 2 commandments.
I always found the Mary/Maria obsession annoying to say the least. I have Catholic relatives that WILL NOT read the Bible no matter what due to their strange catholic teachings in the past. I've seen similar things on TV shows, movies, on youtube by random street preachers talking to random catholics.
You really don't see any point, seriously? - +1 y
John 14:13-15 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
If ye love me, keep my commandments.

567 opinions shared on Religion & Spirituality topic. Yes and nothing makes it unique, it's just another false Church of Satan. Muhammad and his wife who were a part of the Catholic church created with them in the 7th century, the Islamic religion taking the Christian Holy Bible of the day and badly rewriting it, turning Jesus into a common man by not saying he's God to put it lightly. Islamic people are just as brainwashed as so called Christians today who worship a 1st day Sunday sabbath tradition that is nowhere in the bible.

Not unique to Islam. Islam is one of the three Abrahamic religions (incl. Christianity and Judaism) both of which also have stoning. It is STILL in the Bible… Also, nothing in the New Testament DIRECTLY contradicts stoning in the Bible. Except possibly when Christ commands his followers to obey mans laws. But still, both The Jewish and Christian faiths practiced stoning, it is NOT unique to Islam. If I were you I’d have gone with throwing gays off the roofs of the tallest building in town (which at the time, was usually 3-4 floors max), so it was a slow painful process that took many times of dragging them upstairs and throwing them off the roof again and again!
