What if there is an afterlife, but it’s not what we expect?

We’re all going to die. Most of us have this strange ideology that suggests “good” people go one way while “bad” people go another. At some point, most reasonable people realize nobody is all good and nobody is all bad. So what if you die and when you get to reception you’re told you’ll spend half of your afterlife in your own personal hell and half of it in your own personal heaven. What would your personal hell be, and what would your personal heaven be?

I suppose the Viking afterlife of Valhalla is hell to me. Senseless and unending violence every day sounds horrible. I suppose it's considered sensible insofar as it prepares them for Ragnarok. Still it sounds like hell to me... and many people I respect.

Heaven? Well, an unending universe of beautiful wilderness. Every biome on the earth, and perhaps lots of biomes unknown to us, with beautiful fauna. All cruelty is removed from everyone. And everyone understands one another and acts with love and kindness.

I am agnostic, and I lean very heavily in the direction of atheism. That there is an afterlife at all would not be what I expect. I leave it to others to determine if I am obnoxious in my answer.

I don't understand. There is no way that an afterlife could approach our expectations. I don't subscribe to your view about personal hells or heavens. So I can't engage in that hypothetical.

But I do believe this. We will be in a realm, that is nothing like this one. And in the vision have I have had, it is full of constant travel from one realm to another.

According to the Bible, Hebrews 9:27-28

27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear* the second time without sin unto salvation.

In other words, no reincarnation or being a ghost. Believer's souls/spirts go to be with the Lord. The unbelievers go to purgatory to await the Judgement. There their lives will be opened up for all to see to show that their judgment is deserved, and they will be judged according to their works. It is there that you go to Heaven or to dwell in the Lake of Fire. Basically, if you believe in Christ, that He died on the cross for your sins, you will take the elevator going up, and if you didn't you will be told: Matthew 25 - "Depart from Me, you accursed people, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels".

My personal hell

Well that would be me forced to live in totalitarian world with no freedoms, can't own property of any kind. There is very little work for humans, robots do all the work humans used to do.

You can't travel, unless you ask the government for permission, you can't eat any animal proteins (lack of animal protein really affects how the brain works and its not in a good way), you must be willing to be spied on 24/7, there is no more constitution or human rights. You are nothing more then cattle

You don't agree to this life, you are put to death right there on the spot

My personal heaven

Well thats a place where you have free will. A complete opposite from hell.

Hell would be being left in a oven that's the size of a room with healing powers that fix everything but my arm bones and leg bones that always stay broken then people I care about will either walk in and torture me in various different ways or will be tortured themselves in front of me as my skin melts from the heat of the oven.

My personal heaven? The first thing is that I have to not know it's heaven. My memory would have to be adjusted so that I don't know that I've been there a long time. Somehow I would have to wake up everyday believing I'm about 30 on a vacation doing something I love.
