Tarot card readers: any advice for beginner readers?

First of all, it's not true, like horoscopes it's about cold reading, saying vague enough things to make it sound plausible.

Two, you don't read the cards, you read the person. You don't dive in deep with the mystic arts to someone who is skeptical enough to still have a door in the doorway.

Three, audience participation. While most don't let the client to touch the cards too much, making them react to them makes them more invested in the reading. See how they react to certain cards and go from there.

Four, the grand arcana, basically the face cards, is a good place to start for the first timer. Know the cards, how you are supposed to read them, both normal and inverted. You want the reading to be fluent, it needs to flow to feel real. Once it's been done a lot, you can try the minor arcana too on a regular.

Five, don't scam. Like any client-based operation, you want them to gain some (mostly useless) insight to their own life. Done right, it can be some fun entertainment, and if the cards fall right, it can be outright magical. Among friends it can turn into a bonding experience, as the one being read might reveal some details about their life they otherwise might have not. Be supportive.

Then get someone else to do it for you. Tarot is not some divination tool. There is no power in the cards.

You go to the doctor to talk about test results because they have the medical knowledge to tell you what it means.

The good news is that reading tarot results yourself can't kill you, but the psychological effect of finding the meaning you want is much less when done alone. And that's all tarot readings are, a way to look inside yourself to see what you really want.

Me and you have funk but going past that I should tell you that it's demonic and can affect your spirit & you should not play with them demons. They don't love you or care about you. You can do what you want but your spirit should matter first.

@EmmaMary majority of the people that have answered don’t even seem like they read cards, which I clearly stated I wanted tarot card readers only. You just want to shove an unwanted opinion in someone’s face without taking time to think: is what I am going to type helpful, or am I just wasting my breath wanting to argue with someone that isn’t going to change their mind.
