Did any religions and/or houses of worship ever have orphanages. if so which ones and do they still use them or did they stop?

I want to say there was some religions or houses of worship that allowed parents to drop off children they couldn't care for anonymously. so it then became the house of worships role to raise and care for the children. until they either got adopted or grow into adults and joined the cause. this was of course long before abortion or modern birth control methods were an option.

In my homeown, I am aware that the Southern Baptist has a home for children, and the Catholic church has an orphanage. There may be others.
