We could very well view the story of Adam and Eve to serve a different meaning than a factual one. It could be a woven in metaphor for all of us having the same origin, being the same family and all equal children of a supposed God. Who is to say that some previous scholar was not wrong?

As an atheist myself I of course find much of the writings contradictory with society today. Many things are cherry picked. For example we will rarely hear the lines that prohibits interest - although they are very obvious and basically repeat "This is wrong!" several times. But will often hear about the bad things with sex - although the actual bible pretty much says to be passionate and enjoy it with your partner and any condemnation of the acts came from the church much later.

There really is plenty of good in the old books. Especially if read with the context that it is indeed old and for a different society. But sure, I don't think it would make any sense to interpret all of it as literal truth.

How is it possible that I came from Adam & Eve? They had 3 kids. All 3 were boys! That spells out the end of humanity right there!!
