I believe it will.
Aside from that, it might be a good idea to go into quieter areas to retreat and meditate such as woodlands or caves. I know some friends of mine who do this on occasion as Buddhist practitioners. When your focus in life starts to turns inwards, you will be following a very different path of life compared to many people. For the purposes of this journey, you may also need to refrain from sex, as it will also be about the long-term retention of chi.
Also I would not be afraid of the shadows. If one is turning towards the light, it is a natural byproduct of change in your overall mindset (which is likened to an upgrade to a OS like Windows - you are going from Win XP to Win 10). In my books, every person is capable of opening the third eye (and whether one has the chance to open it is a different matter). However developing a higher consciousness is not something for everyone. For some it may not require it to be opened at all. Nor does it require something like ayahuasca or marijuana. All it requires is just to be mindful of it at all times. At least that's what those I know who have this ability tell me.

Nope. The only thing that will provide you a higher consciousness is the Holy Spirit.

What do you mean by you're afraid of seeing shadows after opening the third eye? I know what opening the third eye means, but what is this shadow business?
Mindfulness isn't about higher level of consciousness. It's about being present in the here and now.
People who seek higher consciousness only waste their time and everyone they talk to about it.
