Because so much of it contradicts what I DO believe. And, for that matter, what was done before- Judaism was completely unrecognizable before Moses, but didn't enter its modern form until Joshua. So God needs a ruthless bloodthirsty warlord to establish a safe haven for His chosen people- hard to accept, but okay, let's go with that. Then Israel is established, rises, splits, gets conquered- twice- and finally gets reunited under a THIRD foreign power. So then He sends in Jesus; a peace-preaching rabbi who (so far as is recorded) never hurt anything other than a single fig tree. Okay; different method for a different message. But then, after that supposedly goes according to plan, it's... back to another ruthless bloodthirsty warlord? Back to what didn't work? With a completely different group of people, living Israel in the lurch? How does THAT make any sense?

I am, however, open to the possibility that there's some reason I simply don't see or understand. So when we're face to face, I'll simply say what Victor Hugo did: "And now, Lord God, we shall explain ourselves to each other".
