Everytime they get in an argument, they use the bible to say "God said this" and "god says not to do this", to the point it's just... bruh. You aren't entirely a devote christian but you know that this is just annoying and unbearable. Sooo, think you could do it?
Maybe remember this passage.
Matthew 7:3-5
3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
I've yet to run into anyone of such a bent in real life, although I'm not saying it couldn't occur.
On many occasions, myself and others whom I know will quote a verse to punctuate a topic of conversation, but not in a "thumping" manner, as you speak of.
I'd distance myself from such behavior.

I don’t know much about other religions, but generally, I prefer not to discuss religion with people since I’m not a fan of it. I’m agnostic and I don’t even follow the religion I was raised in. There are hypocrites in every religion, and almost all of them use their holy books or God (s) to justify their hatred. It’s baffling. However, not all of them are like that. Many of my friends are religious; they’re very tolerant and open to new ideas.
Hit them back with a "God says in the bible!" saying the opposite. When they ask you where in the bible it says that, you say "The next verse where you said".
They will get the hint you're onto them making shit up, and are giving it back.
I would never provoke anybody intentionally by bible texts. But sometimes i have to cite them because they show the difference between humanist thinking and christian biblical thinking.

Some Christian play-actors use scripture as a weapon. To them, I say: Matthew 7:2 1-2. Have a nice day. I don't recite it. Unless they memorized it, they have to look it up which is part of the response.

Sure I can deal with one, I already deal with hypocrites as is. Like the hypocrites who howls about how racist Right leaning poeople are and then turn around amd are more racist themself.
cancel culture went too far, and being "intolerant" is among the most harmful characteristics of fascism. just be accepting even if christians are "wrong".
