What do you think about Deism?

Deism is the belief that a supreme intelligence (God) created created the universe but does not usually directly intervene in the universe or in the lives of humans.

I believe in God but not in organized religion because it seems to be many of these religions were set up to control people have little to no real evidence for their claims.
And I think it is just physiological child abuse to tell a child that God is going to punish them forever if they don’t believe the right thing or fit some perfect mold.

(Christian Universalism is an exception to this.)

I believe in God because of the complex design of nature not because of an old book full of contradictions and mistranslations.

It's a cute idea but it is still irrational anthropomorphism at the end of the day. It would seem more likely to be true than the existence of other gods which belong to the particular religions but the fact is that there is the same amount of reliable and verifiable evidence for both.

I believe God does participate in our lives but three conditions have to happen, first is you have to seek him, second is you have to survive the tests He gives you, third is, he has to know that if he lengthens your life, you will be more righteous at the time of your death than you would be if he shortened your life through some tragedy or illness. Some people die as young heroes in tragic events because God knows if they had lived to full adulthood, they would have been corrupted by life, and their reward after death would be smaller.

I think it is spot on HOWEVER I do believe God works. I believe everything is God and God works through the Laws of Nature. I believe God is the Laws. I believe God is amoral thus does not intervene in the way humans think of intervene.

In practice, Deism is the same as having no religion. The existence of God is unknowable, so id someone says they think it's likely that there is a God, fine. When they start telling me what God wants me to do, them I have a problem.

even more stupider than atheism, atheists are at least trying to cover it by science and all but deism is just i believe in a god but i don't believe in what he/she says, totally stupid and same sin as the atheist, they won't be treated differently.

I've heard a lot of people say things to the effect of "I believe in God, but I don't subscribe to any religion." In practice, it usually translates to someone being like 90% Christian, but they don't go to church with any regularity.

It was largely conjecture bullshit of White folks who wanted all the benefits of being a White Christian, but without the Church, and clergy element.

These days they would just be Mormons or followers of one of the lesser Christian sects.

I think Jesus is Lord. For one to appreciate the beauty of necessity of the gospel of Jesus Christ one needs to see the ugly nature of sin and the brokenness of the world. And for one to se that ugliness one needs to read the Bible

And you do realize only the most extreme fundamentalists believe in a literal interpretation of genesis?

The Catholics, mainline Protestants and Eastern Orthodox already accept evolution and an old earth.

The world was more violent in the dark ages when the church controlled everything, but now things are much better not because of religion but because of science.

You don’t worship god, you idol worship the Bible.

God is indeed bigger than the Bible. Jesus himself said the scriptures point yo him. I worship the God and Father of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Adam and Eve are in Genesis so you're telling me they're metaphorical characters? That means Enoch, Abraham, and even David and all Bible characters are not real people. Which means you're lying. Adam and Eve is so basic, God made them in his own image. If evolution is the antithesis of Adam and Eve then you're saying God lied. Because God himself said let us make men in our own image. Know God for who he is not for whom you want him to be

deism is like calling a square a rectangle true and inclusive. that founding father said "infinite father" is a Christian theme so also de=theologist and also christian.

i think it's a position that can't be supported with logic or rational thinking. i personally reject believe as a method of "knowing" things.
