The second commandment doesn't say anything about "idols". In fact all the commandments are usually understood from the various pigheaded American English Hollywood movies.

In the original Hebrew, there is a lot more to the faith, than simple statements.

The commandment you're alluding to actually forbids graven images produced for the purpose of veneration. Which is a separate matter from idols of the pagans. There also is no real picture of "Christ" as none actually know what he looked like.

You're confusing various artistic impressions which are simply produced as art. The most "popular" images of "White Jesus" are based on DaVinci's paintings. None of which were based on actual Jewish men like Jesus was.

So any pictures you see of a "White Jesus," you should know it's only a picture.

Is the question if it is a sin?

Of course it is wrong, a sin is debatable but you are breaking a commandment. You're not allowed to make any depictions of any form of deity, real, false or imagined. A depiction of God or Jesus is a depiction of such a being and blasphemy as we are projecting our ideas onto something we do not understand. It is a direct violation of the second commandment.

Now depicting something like Jesus is more interesting as Jesus was man and divinity. You can portray Jesus as a man and that is fine - but the moment you worship, admire or look up to this depiction as more than human? You're now depicting something divine, which breaks the commandment.

But really, religion has always been about cherrypicking what is convenient to you and ignoring the rest. Obviously that applies here too.

It depends on who you ask, some people will say it is and some people will say it isn’t. To me, it’s the worship of the images that makes it a sin.
Historically speaking, images and paintings of Christ have been used to bring the Gospel to people who couldn’t read. These people who wouldn’t be able to understand the written text of the Bible could learn visually through art.
So I don’t see a problem with owning something that could open the door for the Gospel for anyone who sees it.
