I am making my own research. I wanted to hear from people opinions. Is it okay to hang Jesus pictures on your wall?
+1 yIt is. Bear in mind that it's going to be an abstracted representation, though; nobody knows what Jesus actually looked like. The most common depictions of Him are the creations of a later age, in particular the artist... okay, I can't remember the guy's name; it'll come to me as soon as I stop trying to remember, and I'll reply to this giving it. Pretty every isolated culture of Christianity (it was VERY unpopular at first, pretty much everywhere it went) depicted Him as resembling the locals; behold- Chinesus!

What He ACTUALLY would've looked like, assuming normal genetics for that time and place, is a lot like a big nosed, dark skinned Arab. But obviously, there were photographs back then, and you generally only got your portrait painted if you were a noble or some such, so we have nothing to go on. That's okay, though; looks weren't the point, given that the core of the message about our shared humanity as the children of God.
Remember that God, being omniscient, sees past the complexities and confusions, and knows your heart. THAT is what matters, far more than minutia about rules and regulations.

Why would it not be okay? It’s a matter of personal choice. If you mean whether it is disrespectful to hang pictures of Jesus on your wall, then the answer is no. As long as you’re doing it with the right intentions and in a reverent manner, it’s absolutely okay.
I’ve once asked a priest if it’s okay to do something that I personally think praises God while others might feel like it’s inappropriate, to which he replied: if a son does something to please and praise his father because he thinks it’s right, would his father scold and punish him for his good intentions?
Hope this answers your question.00 Reply
+1 yI don't think Jesus will mind. I mean people hang crosses of him hanging on it. I think a little picture is not going to hurt.

+1 yNo. #1: There's no picture of Jesus at all and that long blonde hair, blue eye dude that looks like Cesare Borgia that someone painted claiming to be Jesus is wrong.
God doesn't want any image at all of anything that you think is Him or is in heaven to be revered or worship.
Having images of such stuff leads to a false god and idolatry which some especially Catholics are guilty of violating God's very 1st commandment yet they don't care because Catholicism is rooted in paganism.
Exodus 20:1-5
And God spoke all these words, saying: “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
“You shall have no other gods before Me. “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them.

@NamerOfStars: Totally different. The context God is talking about is images of deities or images of reverence to perceived idols.

Hispanic cool guy I Just wanted to check and make sure First before I went to the store and buy Jesus portraits.
- +1 y
You mean portraits of Cesare Borgia or the friend of Cesare Borgia?
Those so called Jesus portraits are idols, they aren't Jesus Christ at all like this garbage.
- +1 y
Hispanic cool guy Yes you are right. I watch a video just now about this being unacceptable.

As you yourself quoted: "“You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them."
If you're going to claim that you can't look at a picture without being compelled to worship it, yours is prohibited. If not, then you can't condemn the Catholics (or the Greeks, or the Russians, or the Assyrians, or the Ethiopians, or the Thomasine Indians, or 99% of the sects of Protestantism, for that matter) for being able to, you know, THINK. Remember Exodus 25:17-18, just a few chapters later, where God says to "Make two cherubim of beaten gold for the two ends of the cover;"? - +1 y
@NamerOfStars: You clearly don't know how to read in context of what the Bible teaches.
A picture of myself and family isn't the same as a picture dedicated to gods and deities or things that are worshipped and prayed too. - +1 y
No, I clearly DO- that's why I brought up the later Exodus passage, as it clearly shows that God acknowledged the distinction between a depiction and an idol. Most humans can make that distinction; that was the exact reason why Iconoclasm got REJECTED as an ideology in Christianity.
Either you underestimate humanity in assuming we can't, or you underestimate God in assuming the incarnation wasn't complete.
