delusion is the biggest power of the god concept. people bend over backwards to follow an idea that is not based in reality. i don't know of any other "non real" thing that gets so much tracktion.

Humans have been creating gods since the beginning of humanity. Virtually every culture throughout human history has had a god, end every one has been different, yet every one has believed theirs is the true god. What does that tell you?

Why do they do it? Because it's a simple way to explain the existence of life and the mysteries of the universe.
