I believe it exists as a belief and an industry, but I don't believe in any of its claims. It's no different from a carnival trick, like tarot cards or palm reading or being psychic - it's selling false hope to desperate people. It's a scam that's thousands of years old, but there will always be people desperate to believe in something (especially an "easy way out" solution to their problems) who will pay whatever is asked to get their false hope.

It's a tricky question, because people think of it as one thing, and I think of it as another. I do not get into star-charts and this that and the other, but anyone who watches livestock channels on youtube or breeds dogs or other things knows that animals born at certain times of the years have noticeable trends in birthweights and personalities. I suspect it has a lot to do with amount of sunlight at certain developmental stages, amount/type of food at certain developmental stages, and certain amounts of chemicals released, etc.

I'll use Taurus for an example—considered chubby and slow to anger, etc. When they are gestating in utero, there is a developmental phase where mom is eating all kinds of candy, turkey, Christmas and new year's food, and then has to survive the coldest part of winter before spring, and then they have baby right before survival gets easy in summer, so the baby can chill. I really think this is the "big secret" about astrology and birth-signs. You just have different conditions at different parts of the gestation cycle.

I would be really interested to see some scientific study testing this theory with the southern hemisphere and countries that don't have such drastic 4-seasons and different feasting holidays...

Interesting reasoning. The obvious scientific research to do would be seeing if the traits are shifted in the southern hemisphere (if you can prove the traits at all).

Good point. But Christmas only lasts a few weeks, local produce is sweetest at the end of summer. I wonder if aboriginal people have comparable birth-month related personality stereotypes.

@goaded Yup. The thing with 9 months though... SO MUCH can happen in utero in a very short amount of time, so it would need to be a super-controlled experiment.

One sheep-farmer I watch fed his ewes feed that was too high-nutrition/calorie and didn't switch them in time, and he had huge problems during lambing because the lambs were all too big to come out easily. Lots of deaths due to getting stuck.

That was always my mother's job, helping with problem lambing; she had the smallest hands! Animals tend to have seasons when they give birth, although there's a new-born lamb next door which is worryingly early. I hope it survives the winter.

@goaded Yup. But they now have CIDRs (for indoor year-round lambing) and they'll use teasers to bring them all into season at the same time, so there are ways to manipulate it. I got my dog with the intention of possibly breeding her (we won't—hips aren't good enough), but we've been really communicative with the other girls in her litter, her mom, and comparing notes. Other littermate sisters live in New Mexico and California and go into season every 7 months or so. Mom lives in Washington (state) and is around 8-9 months. Mine goes into season every 11 months. Apparently they've done studies that show amount of sunlight will affect how often they go into season so dogs/wolves aren't dropping puppies in the middle of winter. Here in the Northeast, I know that 80% of humans are vitamin D deficient, so it would make sense she cycles so much slower than her sunny-clime sisters.

And there is no doubt that as I get older (and witchier? lol) I respect the affect that "nature" and the environment has on us. I feel the air-pressure changes, a storm system will knock me out cold, affects my eyesight, makes my joints hurt, and the closer it gets to a full moon, the harder time I have sleeping with that blue light in my window. The idea of Qi in accupressure/puncture is just electricity through the neural system and plumbing through the lymbic system. A lot of these "metaphysics" things from the past thousands of years aren't magical, they're just interpreting extreme sensitivities to the world we live in and observing cause and effect.

Sometimes it's more anecdotal than "good science," but there's certainly something soft-science to it that's not magic—just not well-understood because of a gap in methodologies.

I haven't worked on a farm since I was a teenager, 40 years ago, and it was early organic; no messing with the natural rhythms there, other than keeping the animals alive when they tried to kill themselves (sheep are stupid!). Some vegans who came to visit said they might even consider eating our meat!

Draining the lymph nodes was something I got recently after an operation. I kind of miss homeopathy as a self-prescribed placebo system, but it was only really better than "conventional" medicine when the latter was largely poison!

I don’t take it seriously but it’s fun and entertaining. Is more like a forecast than a prediction of what’s going to happen and weather forecasts are often wrong so I’d say don’t take it serious and don’t make any decisions based on that.

I believe that it’s based on principles that are religious and not pagan, but that it’s been misused for the purposes of witchcraft and fortune telling and all kinds of superstition and pseudo magic. I believe that even teaching the bible could be considered a form of manipulation of cosmic energies if you are expressing ideas you don’t actually value or follow. I’ve seen people preach for vanity purposes, they usually believe it themselves, but there are gaps in their knowledge they are too lazy to acknowledge or fix.

When we start to believe in such things, we attach meaning to them and in a way, we narrow down the things that can actually happen. For example, your coffee fortune teller told you that bad things would happen and you started to think that something bad would happen, and because you thought about it, if there was a possibility of something good happening, you reduced that possibility and You kind of attract bad things to yourself, like a magnet.
God makes the best plan for us, God's plan is the best and He does not want us to be bad.
Of course, not everyone has to think like me, these are just my personal opinions

I agree, I also am a high believer of god and involve him as much as I can with my limited knowledge because God gave us all the requirements to have a accomplished life, he even gave us the guidance but our self sabotaging ways is what pushes us off the tracks, one of those sabotaging things is believing that astrology signs have any importance when it comes to compatibility and a deception can easily create a form of paranoia that can pull you even farther off the tracks and like you've mentioned, even call things on yourself or make it come true because of decisions.
