It is as simple as this...

Romans 10:9

''That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.''

When you truly believe in the heart, you change how you live. But note that you need to be in the Word daily in order to grow your faith. Without this your faith will dwindle and then you will have doubts.

part of christian faith is "nobody is righteous" anyway. we cannot earn it anyway but if we have faith then we get grace as a gift. do not even set a goal to "deserve" just have faith and study the new testament live by it as best you can.
