+1 yAn eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind, YEP!
I don’t care that it is the Bible or whatever that states it, it is a true statement. If you let vengeance / revenge cloud your judgement then who’s to stop that person’s friends/family from wanting revenge on you…. There will always be someone who mistreats us, misuses our trust, and treats us like pigs however by holding them accountable by forgiving and never forgetting, we can move on without the need for some sinister action.
You can also take it as if you get so heated up on the idea of revenge, you’ll lose sight of what really matters until it is too late.31 Reply

+1 yThat's from the Old Testament - which is kind of proto-Jewish, and before Jesus came along with the update.
I ''love my neighbour''.
Where - - - > many people simply AREN'T my neighbours.
Free from obligations (where applicable), I'll then take an entire head for an eye...
unless I feel too lazy that day.

@andreasderjuengereThe Old Testament does not apply anymore for most of it. It is the New Testament that we live by now - or try to. The Old Testament was all about judgement, while the New is all about Salvation. The End Time is near, so one needs to get right with God or be left.

@Daniela1982 -- I mostly agree with this.

Well, guess it is true but there is lots of judgements in Revelation.
+1 yIf someone kills their wife by burying her alive, that person does not deserve to live in prison for 20 years. He deserves death! So yes, an eye for an eye in some cases is just.

Sometimes when i read such things, i have a hard time to believe it, even though they are real!
How can even someone think about killing the other or be able to do it? 🤔 - +1 y
@Jennz6 Jenn, you would shit if you knew all the things that people do to each other, women in particular. I heard from a cop here about a woman found dead on some train tracks. She had a tree pole shoved in her vagina and then driven up through her body. Can you imagine her terror and pain? That person would deserve to have the same done to him. It's really man's inhumanity to man. And that stuff happens every day in the US.

@daniela1982 is this a real story? 😳 there is no way the person who did it is sane, i mean for sure they are other psychotic or on drugs!
In no way a sane human who never do drugs would be able to do something like that, i mean the max he can do is to slap a girl and go away, that's all, he can never actually hurt her such as making her bleed or break her bones or cause danger on her life!
Not really because it’s the Old Testament and I go by the New Testament

@jennz6 and @happywoman34. It may very well be in the Old Testament, but are you both so sure you'd genuinely rule out seeking justice by way of revenge if heaven forbid you are faced with someone having done something inconceivably wrong to you or your family (or those you care about) Of course, I pray neither of you ever have to find out.

@TommyMountainFigure it’s the old law and not meant for today since Jesus died for our sins

@TommyMountainFigure good question

@jennz6. it's a belief you hold dear and I get it, honestly I do. In an ideal world our beliefs would be unshakable. The world though is far from ideal. and @happywoman34 Thank you.

The Bible says in Romans
Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written: “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. - +1 y

Most people do not understand that “an eye for an eye” is meant to reduce retribution and murder. If someone takes your eye then you can inly take up to their eye, not their life.
You can forgive as well, just not take more and certainly not murder over an eye.

+1 yNope i don't think so, i mean that's why there is the new testament, i believe in Jesus teachings, it's true that he came to continue the path but he did correct some of the mistakes which were made in the past...
Ana eye for an eye is switched into forgiveness!
21 Reply- +1 y
Even though as humans, we rarely forgive, we always go for the "eye for an eye" option!
It was changed by Jesus when he spoke of turning the other cheek and vengeance being His. Turning the other cheek is not so tough but when that second one is coming in you kinda' have a reflex that counter attacks. But speaking of eye for an eye would be revenge. So God deals with them promised so.

What it actually roughly translates to is that you can demand nothing more.
In other words, you can't demand a Palestinian family be killed, because a hostage might be there.

+1 yI think what it means is the punishment should be in proportion to the crime, not we should be scooping eye balls out.
20 Reply But if there is harm, then you shall pay life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.
U mean this?

@sheenagwapa If Jesus said to turn the other cheek then why is an eye for an eye in the old testament in the first place? Doesn't it contradict itself? Or isn't it denying parts of the old testament which also make up the Bible? Just a q
