How much risk have you taken for the Bible?

In WWII, men went back into a wasteland of terror on Okinawa to retrieve Desmond Doss Bible when he was injured by a grenade. It's an incredible read.

Of note... is the part about a Japanese sniper that had Doss in his sights, but each time he went to shoot.. his gun would jam. I see no verification for this as yet... I'm surprised any Japanese survived.

The men waited for Doss to finish praying before attacking the Hacksaw ridge again.

What idiot weighs himself down with a whopping heavy book on a battle field? I would have just told him to buy a new one the next time he passes a bookshop.

He'd have shot you dead on the spot...
Just kidding... he made an oath to God to not kill... he carried a small version his wife gave him. He held to his beliefs and oath to never kill including humans and apparently animals... didn't eat meat. He saved 50-100 men on the battlefield risking his life, as did so many medics... and survived wounds from grenade that he kicked away. One h! ll of a man, earned the respect of the men he served. not easy to do. Great movie if haven't seen, although mel gibson wimped out in some of telling the truth.

"The" Bible meaning it's content, considerable. I've spoken about it to convicted killers and individuals known to be violently opposed to what it says. It's hard to think of it as a risk when you've been physically dead once already though.

For "A" Bible, not much. It's a book. Aside from my grandfather's Army issue from WW2 he carried on D-day I don't have a copy I'd risk life or limb for. They can be replaced for relatively low cost.

It can be interpreted as a Christian Sacrifice. Like Monks wearing Hair Shirts. And those roadside preachers witnessing to empty parking lots in the rain.

A Bible can be replaced easily. But I'm sure God thought highly of him for that and protected him from harm in return.

That's not taking a risk for the Bible; copies are available everywhere, free for the asking. That's taking a risk for Desmond.
