That's the premise of Islam. All non-believers are punished in hellfire. The problem for Muslims is that the Quran also promises that all Muslims go to hell no matter what. This is because Islam actually worships Satan. Thus their supposed "god" that prays to another God promises his voluntary slaves that their stay in hell will be like paradise, were as it threatens harsh punishment in hell for not voluntarily becoming a slave.

It strongly contrasts the Jewish and Christian religion which allows the non-sinner to go to heaven without ever going to hell, and shows mercy for sinners that repent and believe in a good God and work toward improving their morality even though they may fall short.

No. Tens of thousands of years ago, people didn't know how drought, subzero temperatures, famine, pestilence and deadly attacks by animals came about, so they theorized that they must have done something wrong, and promised the god they subscribed to that they'd try to conduct themselves with greater discipline in the future.

God is real and of justice, but God is also Merciful. Hell is real, but so is Heaven, and Purgatory. Many are saved, even if imperfect, but you must pray, repent, read Scripture, seek to do God's will in your life and not your own, nor lean on your own understanding. Be careful of despair or presumption, confess the accumulation of your sins to a priest monthly, and Join the Catholic Church. That's the Church Jesus Started, and no other church can say that. The Eucharist saves souls, and the only valid Eucharist is there, for the priests and bishops can be traced back to the apostles, and the position of the pope, the see of Peter, is a position instituted by Christ himself. Pray the Rosary too!
