Why can't I feel God?

Question

I have tried to feel God for 2 years. I prayed, I begged, I cried but in vain. I didn't feel his presence. Didn't experience the nirvana, the spirituality.

I feel nothing when someone gives testimony of God. I feel nothing when I hear gospel. I feel nothing when an atheist claims to become a believer.

I know that believers feel spirituality and how their souls rises up when someone praises God.

Ok, so there are a couple of things going on here.

FEELING is a tangible, sensory concept.

PATIENCE and DEDICATION are needed in the quest to "find" and experience God in the world and in your life. You're complaining about trying for two years, however many people take much longer on this particular type of journey.

ATTENTIVE MINDFULNESS is required to see the signs of God in the world. GOD ISN'T AN ATM/SLOT MACHINE, so begging and pleading won't get you closer to the goal of experiencing God. You need to be alert and aware, at peace with the universe and with yourself.

VAGUE/MIXED DEVOTIONS are being listed here, as if you just went to the supermarket looking for the box marked "GOD" -- which is a waste of time. What is "testimony of God"? That's a personal and individual thing for basically every human being. EVEN people from the same faith will express their understanding of God in slightly different ways. Like snowflakes, no two religious perspectives are exactly identical.

EXAGGERATION of the facts of situations in which some people claim to experience God is very common. God doesn't always have to strike you like a giant bolt of lightening... Calm your mind, calm your heart, calm your soul, and look for God in quiet moments, small blessings. Not EVERY moment that God is with us do we feel "souls rises up" as you say. Sometimes "God" is just the person smiling back at us or offering a lending hand when we need it the most.

We crave certainty as humans because it suppresses the feeling of vulnerability. Faith isn't based on certainty, though, it's based on trust.

I don't know why you aren't feeling anything in your personal walk, but all of us have times when we have spiritual deserts. I'd look at it as, "What is God trying to teach me through this time where I am feeling alone?" It's an exciting, although scary, opportunity for growth in your faith. I've been where you are, and for longer. It took me a while to learn that I was about to get to the next level in my faith and spiritual walk.

I am a Christian, so I am going to use a Christian example. When Jesus was on the cross, he cried out Eloi, Eloi? Lama Sabachthani? Or, My God, my God! WHY have you forsaken me? Even Jesus felt abandoned by God.

There's a quote I love and I'll share it with you. It is a helpful reminder during these times:

Read, pray, trust and do the right thing. You may have outgrowth your spiritual community, too. Support when you're struggling is important, so make sure you have a few safe people to help you in practical and emotional ways during this time. Well you have to understand. It's who you are within.

It's what you believe in or what you don't.
What is God to you who is Jesus Christ is he Gods son. Or is he God. . . Look at look at the way you are built look at yourself and find detail and understand everything that is inside of you we are the most unbelievable precision instrument on this planet the things that our body can do is like no other... Close your eyes and sit still for a minute understand who you truly are where you came from How could somebody so perfectly built live in such a perfectly beautiful place on this planet having everything that we need to live to survive to grow everything not man-made is meant for us to be the best we can be

If you can understand that everything on this planet is basically alive if you're sitting on a park bench right now that park bench has molecules in it moving

You can't base anything solid on how you feel. I didn't feel anything, but after growing my faith and speaking to a friend of mine, a demon left them causing them to fall to the ground. I've also laid hands and seen miraculious outcomes through faith. But I did not feel my faith had changed at that time. You may feel something, but you cannot judge much from human feelings. That is where faith comes in...

I recommend you simply grow your faith.

Romans 10:17

I recommend you get some healing scripture and confess it out loud each day. I recommend the book ''God's Creative Power Gift Collection Leather Bound by Charles Capps''

Note the page numbers that have all of the paraphrased scripture that are in italics and confess that out loud each day. Your flesh will fight it, you will feel distracted and you will want to find other stuff to do to distract yourself, but fight through that. Allow your faith to grow. I recommend reading parts of the Bible while listening to the same on an audio Bible too.

First, try to improve yourself. Work on your personality flaws. You know better!! Ask yourself what your flaws are. Jealousy? Selfishness? Not having the courage to tell the truth? Not having enough knowledge? Start working on your number 1 defect.

Second, never immitate religious. Be bold. Start questioning belief and look for logical explanations for the claims made by religious people. Learn, debate, compare ideas, but never resist against accepting the truth (you can only accept truth if you have successfully improved yourself and eliminated your flaws).

You need to learn how to Trust God and His every words. He wants you to pray to him and feel his presence in your life. Sometimes too, it can depend on what you are praying for. Are you praying for worldly vain things? That could be why he doesn't answer. Also, sometimes he doesn't answer because He knows what is best for us and He sees the bigger picture.

I have a suggestion. We don't always know the internal movements of our heart, but we can't force feeling him. And that Nirvana feeling only comes to a few people after a while of developing a relationship with him.

For you, I would suggest taking a walk alone, picking an issue that you have a lot of feelings about, and telling him everything. Speak out loud and do not hide anything. Even the smallest thing can feel like a giant block emotionally between you and him, so bear your soul and tell him everything without holding anything back.

A friend of mine did the prayer of having Jesus enter my heart and during that whole time, goose bumps making my hair stand on end happened. And to this day when I pray to Him, or read religious quotes on fb I get goosebumps. Sometimes I’ll ask Him if I should do something or not. If I say yes sometimes I’ll get goosebumps. Sometimes no I’ll get the goosebumps so I believe He is answering me. Sometimes I’ll ask yes or no. And I don’t get any goosebumps. I don’t know why - maybe that was the one of the few times He wanted me to choose for myself?

you are suppose to reach for him with faith, if you are doing it for evidence purposes then you aren't reaching to him from your heart, your intentions aren't pure and let's not forget it's not always easy to feel the presence of God because there can be several distractions that can prevent it and if you had faith you wouldn't have to reach to feel his presence because knowing he is there is enough.

I tried to feel God as well when I was younger but I've always been led by scientific evidence even without knowing it. Even before I could express my thoughts about religion as well as I can now, I was still looking for irrefutable observable signs that any Human-like God existed. And of course was inevitably disappointed when I didn't find an answer. So I moved on to more secular & grounded ways of thinking.

Maybe you're just not the type for religion, or maybe you're just not working with a religion you actually relate to. You don't need religion to live a happy, moral life, so don't sweat it if it's not what's working for you rn. You may find it later, or you may find it never, but I suspect you'll be ok either way.

Have you asked forgiveness lately? We are all sinners and sin against God. Sin separates us from God. It is only through a relationship with Jesus as our Lord and Savior that allows God to see us through the blood that Jesus spilt on the cross which covers our sins.
