How can I get closer to God?

I have grown up in church my entire life. My grandpa is the pastor at my church. I am involved in the church and listen to gospel music. But I recently realized that I am not truly connected with him. Since I was raised like this I have never truly made an extreme effort for him. I really want to do so. I want to completely live my life for him and give myself up to him. I don't know how. I have prayed. I need prayers and any other words of encouragement and/or tips.

You get closer to God by getting closer to people liked by God. Keep promises, give in charity, do good to your family and friends and look after the orphans and weak.

Singing and dancing in Church doesn't make you a good Christian, any more than doing that in a nightclub does.

Those are works right? Doesn't the Bible say that you can not get into heaven by works alone but my faith and having a relationship with him? For if we don't then he will say to us that he never knew us?

I suggest you live your life without worrying about the approval of a fictional character. Enjoy life and be kind to others.

God is not a fictional character. There is proof of him everywhere. And many of the things that His word, the Bible, has predicted is actually coming true. Is it ok if I pray for you? That He will reveal himself to you?

And no, there actually isn't any verifiable evidence of the existence of a any gods and particular of the Christian God. There are also no prophecies from biblical scripture which meet the specificity requirements to be taken as true prophecy.
