Is salvation by faith or works?

First of all, I will ask atheists not to share their opinion, as this issue does not concern them.

All Jews, Christians and Muslims are welcome to share their views.

As a Muslim, I believe that salvation is by works alone, as the Quran continually emphasizes the importance of works over faith.

In this sense, we Muslims share the same heritage as the Jews, as Jews also profess the importance of works and strictly adhere to the law of Moses.

On the other hand, we see that present-day Christians hold the view that salvation is by faith alone, although they have no proof of this except the epistles of Paul.

Depends on what salvation is. If it's just feeling like you've earned your place it can be either, as the world is full of people who have contented themselves with taking credit for other people's work. But there are also people who need to see themselves completing the task before they let themselves feel they have accomplished anything.

The latter tends to not be too worried about receiving credit as they know they can always just accomplish more tasks. But as they get older and run out of energy they tend to want credit for past accomplishments and are quick to get bitter when they realize the people who have been cheering then on the most were also taking credit for the work all along.

This proxy rivalry between engineering and marketing has been going on for probably all of human history. I don't understand the sort of people who are satisfied with receiving unearned credit, myself - it makes me extremely uncomfortable when I receive praise that isn't within the precise bounds of an objective description of a task; I couldn't imagine taking credit for something I had nothing to do with whatsoever - but they pretty much run the entire republican party these days so I know they must exist.

Logically, it comes primarily by dint of not needing it. Remember that sin is a choice, and that since it by definition requires moral agency, can never be anything BUT a choice. Avoid sin, and no outside effort is necessary.

Most sects of Christianity hold that all of humanity is somehow tainted by the actions of Adam and Eve, by means of what it calls "original sin". This is, however- and I say this as a Catholic- nothing but a bullshit marketing gimmick. If morality were genetic, then the doctrine wouldn't apply to those not descended from Adam and Eve, and if it's not genetic, then it's obviously derived from a person's actions. Sinfulness is acquired, not inherent.

First of all, Christianity is just the fulfillment of Messianic Judaism. It is literally the modern manifestation of Judaism. A reason Muslims hate us the same. The Messiah gave us a full and final path to salvation, replacing good works and blood sacrifice with faith and acceptance of G0d incarnate in Jesus of Nazareth.

A good tree does not bear evil fruit, nor an evil tree good fruit. There's a distinction between fruits and works; fruits are lasting. If you have faith and follow God, good works and fruits will naturally follow. The objection Christians have to salvation by good works isn't that good works aren't important, but that they can be done for selfish reasons; true salvation has to come from God, and through that good works come naturally.

Salvation is by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Once a person gets born again then God through His Holy Spirit works in the person to be good fruits of righteousness throughout their lives.

In Christianity/Catholic only by faith. But anyone who has faith and love for the Lord will also do good works out of this love.

Faith. Works show proof of it, but the idea that any work can balance out cosmic treason against the infinite creator, which is what each sin is, is ridiculous.

Faith. If you have true faith you are compelled to do God's will. So by having true faith the works will automatically follow.
