If “Edo” means “I compose poetry”…does “Credo” really mean “I compose religion”?

Credo is supposed to mean “i beleive” thus the English word creed and shit rock band. But I just read a bio of an Icelandic guy who studied mythology and prose. Probably an atheist. Has different thoughts.
