Jesus said to forgive someone you love 77 times, how many can you handle?

Jesus (from the Bible) when challenged..."how many times should we forgive our brothers and sisters... 7 times?" countered with "...77 times! Effectively, be very forgiving. His reference point was God... whom is forgiving for a lifetime for us, when we make amends.

So how many times can you be dis-respected/ wronged by a loved one can you handle? How do you expect them to make amends, so the connection is restored?

You don't forgive for them. You forgive because carrying unforgiveness destroys your heart.

Forgiveness doesn't establish relationship. It can enable a relationship to be restored, but forgiving someone who hurt you doesn't mean you have to let them back in. There's plenty of people I've forgiven but cut ties with. I don't harbour ill feeling for them and I truly wish them well, just not round me.

I can forgive only if it was mistake, and the Magnitude of that mistake was not a Major Financial Loss or loss of someone's life or a Potential loss of someone's Life..

If it was Not a Mistake but a pre planned act, and it led to Major Financial Loss or Loss of Someone's life or Health, than it is not worthy of Forgiveness in my eyes.

You told them what to do or not to do... and they violated it. e. x. you loaned someone your prized shovel and told them..."just don't shovel elephant poop, it's an offense to me". They go and shovel elephant poop. They forgot, they didn't think, it just wasn't a priority in their head at the time, etc..

Yes, the issue is more severe as say... they didn't see your girlfriend/child etc but they still ran over them on the road and they are dead. It was an accident... probably caused by them looking at their cell phone being distracted driving.

Sometimes forgiveness is a way for them to hurt you again. I am all about forgiveness, but these days I am careful about who I choose to forgive. It dates back to the old saying actions speak louder than words.
