Eventually we will all die, and then there's either an eternal afterlife which never ends... or if you don't believe in anything... nothingness for all eternity. I guess the first one is comforting in a way, but still insane to even conceive.

The cessation of one’s existence is indeed a terrifying thought. The idea of eternity can also be equally maddening but you’re assuming existence in that plane is close to if not exactly the same as existence as we experience it now. The only thing we know for sure is that whatever happens at the end of our lives, we don’t come back from it. It’s a door that once you pass through it, you cannot go back.

Everything alive, dies - it's a scientific fact and a religious fact. It's one of the few things both can agree on unequivocally.

Hence there IS something rather than nothing, as we don't need rocks and other inanimate objects to "die". There is no other need for consciousness than to progress, where inanimate matter is static and subject to forces and consciousness.

So it's more "insane" that dimwits think they are just "matter, that doesn't matter" and atheist as a rock.
