From a religious view, why is a baby referred as God's gift?

That's how we all started out as; as babies long ago. A baby is just a small human that's new to their environment and needs extra care.

From a religious view why are babies referred as gifts from God? Why is a baby a gift? Supposedly a gift would be a material given for free, you don't have to pay for it. A baby needs your care, check-ups, clothes, food, etc and that cost money.

There's many ways it can be viewed, a baby can change your life and not only can it humble you in certain ways but babies get attached to you from when it's born, it depends on you, that child will learn to love you and it's one of the strongests forms of love someone can find, it's also a seed to generations of your family past your existence, they are the future and they will keep humanity alive, that's of course not counting that some don't have the ability to have children either, a baby changes your life to the point that in some ways it maybe be considered a gift

Psalm 127, where the expression comes from, reminds us that even the most significant of human achievements are not actually human achievements—they are divine blessings and gifts from the Creator. The Psalm also states that houses don’t get built unless the Lord blesses the efforts, cities aren’t protected unless the Lord guards them, and rising early and retiring late is pointless unless God blesses the efforts in between.
In other words, human endeavors are only of value if engaged with the Lord in mind and with the Lord’s blessing.

Children are a source of great joy and pleasure. At the same time, when they disobey and rebel, they can cause much heartache and grief for their parents. No one can deny that children are an enormous responsibility, but they are also one of life’s greatest assets. Raising children requires a huge investment of time, resources, and love, but the resulting rewards are immeasurable. Instead of seeing children as a burden or liability, believers are to accept them as a legacy from God. They are to be received as an expression of God’s goodness and grace and not as a curse or an inconvenience.
