Two friends of mine were having a conversation about suicide and rather you go to heaven or hell if you commit suicide and if it’s a sin. They said that if someone says “God forgive me.” Right before killing themselves they still sinned because “You can’t” say God forgive me and do the same thing you asked forgiveness for. They basically was saying the person knew what they were doing was wrong and still did it. They also said the person didn’t give God a chance to extend grace. When I mentioned that we all do things that we know are wrong and that if we’re talking about sin none is greater than the other. I also said that they can’t say God didn’t have enough time to extend that person grace because how do you know? Their response in other words was”That’s true but suicide is still worse than anything I’ve ever done.” And “God can’t extend Grace if you’re dead.” And it just lets me see how contradicting people can be when it comes to God and sin.

I think your friends are thinking of God and the Bible too much like a binding contract. Even Christian sects do not agree on some things. Like we're human we're all going to sin, it's in our nature. But some Christians think once you accept Jesus into your heart all you have to do is ask God for forgiveness when you sin. Like soul accumulates debts that can be wiped away. So why not just sin. The whole point of accepting christ is you're supposed to be changed. You're supposed to want to live for christ now. So you cannot go back to who you were. When you see the light you cannot return to the darkness. God knows your heart. He knows when you're trying and when you're just phoning it in.

So the point of what I'm saying is God knows the difference when you're overwhelmed and sin. Vs. When you sin just because you can.

I don't know if your Catholic and i'm assuming you are based on the way you asked this question. And i understand suicide is a mortal sin. But here's what the POPE said about a guy who did not follow Christian doctorine.

Still if someone is contemplating suicide tell them whatever you have to to keep them from doing it. Because death is a permanent fix for a temporary problem.

No I’m a Christian and so are my friends they just seem to be too focused on rules rather than just living as the person/human God created us all to be. That’s how I look at it. I’m not overly focused on what I’m doing right or wrong in the eyes of God because I know where I stand with God and my personal relationship with him. We have an understanding. When I’m wrong he lets me know when I’m on the right track he lets me know. When I need to work on things about myself he lets me know. When I’m improving he lets me know. Point being, God has always been God. He doesn’t expect or want perfection but just that you always put him first and if you aren’t you work/pray on putting him first more often and with time you slowly start to see natural change In yourself. The things you once loved and felt like you couldn’t live without you now notice you don’t need it nor want it. I think too many people try to make the Bible, God and believing much more harder than it is. It isn’t difficult. How can something so natural be mad em difficult? God is already in all of us. We all just have our different points in time when we realize that. Everyone wants to feel like they know more about God and his word more than the next person. Sure, some people have gone to school to study the Bible to be able to teach it to others and they know it a bit more and have a better understanding but it’s nothing you can’t learn on your own as well. That’s why everyone has access to the Bible not just some people. Some people just choose to study it more for a greater purpose. They don’t necessarily “Know” more. That’s where the issue lies. Everyone is trying to tell the next person how they should be living and no one is actually referring to what God has already said.

No, but they are both wrong.

God doesn't "just forgive". You have to have intent and purpose to get it. A drug dealer can't just say "God forgive me" every time he deals badly cut heroin!

As for suicide, it IS sin, unless the person is mad. In which case we can only look at if we were at fault in not protecting/caring for them better.

But having the intent and purpose to commit suicide means you are arrogant enough to decide your own judgement. Which is among the worst sins, before God. It's like making a big decision for your boss, without their input, but not expecting to get fired as a result.

It depends on which branch of Christianity you’re looking at, honestly. In the Catholic Mythos, suicide means you aren’t granted entry into Heaven and are made to walk the planes of Purgatory until such a time as your soul can be fulfilled from the life that was taken from it so suddenly. If you ask another branch they’ll tell you it’s not a sin but you probably shouldn’t do it just because of how selfish it is.

What will happen after suicide no one will know and not even the Bible has specific rules for it, we just shouldn't do it, only God knows and is on charge of what happens after that, no person can say what happens cause nobody knows and won't know as long as they live
