Assisted Dying. Thoughts?

Would you help a person dear to who to fulfill their wish for a peaceful death and do what you can to make that happen even if it means breaking the law? Or would you oppose and choose to keep that person alive for as long as possible even if that means he or she will go through immeasurable pain until the end?

It's legal here for people who are suffering and can't be healed. I never thought it was that controversial but apparently people come here from other countries to die because there's non profit organisations here that support you. The first one was founded in 1982. I think it's a good thing.

There used to be around 80 people a year from Germany who came to Switzerland to die but in 2020 Germany allowed their own non profit organisations so now it's gone down to 5 people in 2023. The most come from France, UK and Italy now.

They can always join a terrorist suicide bombing group, or join the army as a solider of no return.

But joking aside, it's just sheer petulance and cowardice for these people to choose to die. They aren't happy to jump off cliffs, or buildings, they want a doctor to sit beside them, and the taxpayer to pay for it all.

I would happily open up a "death booth" like they had in Futurama for these people. But they are cowards who want attention, instead of having patient and perseverance to make best do with their situation.

in some countries in Europe, it's legally allowed... I told my kids... we put into sleep our cats with cancer when they couldn't bear the pain anymore... do the same for me if I happen to be terminally ill...

I can't see any reason to prolong pain and misery if there is no chance to recover...

Exactly. I'd end any of my loved ones if asked to, and my best friend already agreed to do me that mercy.

Absolutely. I'll make damn sure they see beauty and know they're loved, and I'll make sure they never see it coming. 2 to the back of the head, a kiss good bye and whatever burial or cremation they want.

@thegreenyogi I was with my only brother in December, on Christmas day, 2024, and he died on January 6th, without my being there to hold him when he died. What he went through before dying, (lung cancer and bowel cancer)... I would not wish on any one. He was in and out of the hospital and finally in Hospice Care in Assisted Living when he died... I DO NOT WANT TO DIE LIKE JERRY DIED, AND HOPE SOMEONE WILL HAVE MERCY ON ME AND ALLOW ME TO DIE PEACEFULLY WITHOUT GOING THROUGH WHAT HE WENT THROUGH.

considering I had a Real Brother 5 years younger than me who Just committed Suicide on 7th April and was suffering from Sever Schizophrenia..

I seen him suffer for 8 Years Struggle in Psychotic Episodes and with medication..

I think, People should have Right to Get assisted death.. 😢😢 It's merciful, it would have been much better than him finding courage to jump in a well and drown to death!.. 🥺He was the Most dearest and Loved one, until he fell sick, My life and This Family will never be Complete without him!.. 🥺

His loss will be permanent scar on my heart!

I'm pro assisted dying. If it's someone's wish, then fulfilling it is the right thing to do. My parents have both said they wouldn't want to be kept alive either in pain, or with no quality of life. I'll gladly fulfill their wishes.

Knowing that's what they want, makes it extremely straightforward for me. It's a mercy. I couldn't care less what the law has to say about it.

I will tolerate a person's decision to end their life purposely.

But I do not think that I personally have a moral right or even an obligation to be a part of this.

Where I can assist, though: is where I can make the remaining time as easy as possible for someone I care for.

I wouldn't assist them to die, i will assist them to live and try to find a solution for their pain, only is responsible for taking a soul away, what if a miracle happens at the last moments and the person lives, if i assist them to die than i won't feel human anymore!

I know someone with chronic pain. I told them about swiss assisted death. But only talked about it many times, that we would go there together, but never bought a plane ticket.

I hope I'm never faced with this. I don't really know how I would react. If anything I'd say wait till the pain is getting to severe in order to have more time.

Hospice does that. They escort the terminal out with morphine.

Helping suicide is a crime. In Australia you need two doctors to independently sign off. Helping them find the doctors is fine.
