A dog can have blue eyes if even one parent has the gene in picture, but a human, one parent is not enough, lacks that gene from "common ancestor"... only if both parents carry blue. Did you know these genetic differences?

How can scientists know this and not notice it refuted the imagined common ancestor?

They look at things through the filter of evolution. It's like when a Calvinist reads the bible, He will see all the proof text for that jump out at him or her. But if a non Calvinist reads it, He or she will see all the proof texts that agrees with that point of view.
