Do you think this is a hidden test by God?

I believe God might give you power because he wants to know whether you will use your power to help others or whether you will use your power to destroy others.

My aunt owned a law firm in Shanghai before retiring in her 80s, and one time her husband accidentally crashed his car into a pedestrian, causing severe and brain damaging injury to her. Since he was lawyered up, he paid less than 2,000 USD in damages to the severely disabled woman he crashed into.

But what if God made my uncle and aunt filthy rich because God planned for them to share their wealth with the disabled woman, knowing she would crash into a car that day?

They had the power to rescue her and did not share their money with her, so they failed the test God gave them that day.

I wouldn't say that he "wanted to see what they would do" at all. God knows what you are going to to before you are going to do it. There is no guess work. But we are given a creaturly free will to obey his word, or disobey. So he knew that they were not going to help. Even though the right thing to do was to help.

Kind of reminds me of Ananias when he told Peter he gave a good portion of his wealth to the poor but the Holy Spirit told Peter that he in fact didn’t, Peter caused Ananias death and his wife’s for lying
