In principle, generally yes. Generally. First things first though. Just when I thought CNN was starting on something of a redemption arc, they pull something like this and mischaracterize what he said. He did not call the treatment of immigrants in general "disrespectful". He straight up said, in accordance with official Church teaching, that open borders are not required (and even if he did, he'd have some serious explaining to do on the Vatican's immigration policy). He said nations have the right to determine who comes and how and when.

By the way, if what I've heard is true, Barack Obama deported more people than Trump ever did; he was called the "Deporter-In-Chief". Who never sent him any nasty-grams? Pope Francis. Also worth noting is that Francis was not consistent in how he talked about love and charity being or not being "concentric circles". I won't be convinced that he was anything other than a through-and-through ideologue.

With that being said, I'd be interested to know what he is defining as "disrespectful treatment"; the treatment he was referring to is for those people who have been here for long periods of time and have otherwise stayed out of trouble. I'd also be interested to know what "due process" is for someone who is enters the US illegally.

Yes. Immigration is a global problem both on America and Europe and it must be dealt with. But it should be done so in a fair way that respects international laws, treats people like human beings and addresses why people feel they need to migrate. Simply turning them into hate figures and scapegoats isn't the way to go. If you don't treat people like humans in your country then why would you extend that curtesy to other places.
