1. He had very few followers
2. People didn't like him
3. The rabbis thought he was a magician
4. He got beat up by the Romans and in the end got crucified
5. His students started to hallucinate and let delusion take over their minds, after his death and tried to make up all sorts of stories in order to justify his death
6. His disciples didn't obey him when he asked them to pray with him in the garden of gethsemane
7. Now he wishes to come back a second time and make amendments

Maybe the reason you feel what you do about Jesus is because he was quiet with no ego he new the meaning of becoming one with his our father with himself with us others with our universe
He didn't fail he's already here. And day by day as more people start to awake and start becoming one with each other we will find nothing but truth in his words and that maybe we all failed. But only for a moment in time

Considering his GOAL was 'he lived to die' for atonement so he succeeded at the main goal. Which you put fourth... we need to define goals too... Followers you call thousands 5,000+4,000 few! Not quite. Also when 12 students and Paul spread his message had even more followers!

His followers 'liked him' thousands is more popular than anyone who people know personally. His goal was 'change' so opposition is expected. He was not trying to please everyone!
