Do you believe in destiny?

Question

We all have moments of  déjà-vu . We are after all creatures of habit. Maybe it's because we're living our dreams and looking forward to things until they finally happen. And sometimes everything clicks into place within a grand scheme. I don't know if there is such a thing as  destiny . Every decision in life takes us to a new decision that wouldn't have been there if not for the first. Every intersection and our decision of which way to go brings us to the next intersection. What do you think? Are our paths all laid out for us, or do we decide the course of our lives?

I remember one science fiction story of the 70s, a comic book. About destiny.

An intergalactic traveler lands on a planet where he slowly discovers that all its inhabitants receive instructions from a voice in their head.

This voice is telling them what job they have to do, who they're going to marry and what ideology to believe in. The inhabitants pity the traveler when they realize he doesn't hear the voice they hear. And he pity them in return when he realizes that even the wars waged in the name of freedom, between locals, are dictated by the same voice.

One voice for them all.

At the end of the story, the traveler meets the pupetteer, who happens to be another traveler, a former salesman who crashed on that planet decades ago. When he arrived, the salesman realized no one needed what he sold so he created an utopia instead. Which made him filthy rich and, according to him, made all people happy, liberating them from anguish about the future.

I think I read this story around the age of 15yo, it was one of the many revelations about life I would experience, thanks to science-fiction.

I think we have freewill, but a predestined path from forces that are seen.

I walk into a store (business that is brand name) buy a product (brand name) and give money (that I acquired from a business for employment) then bring the thing home (owned with the money I earn from said business of employement) is that still freewill or predestined?

There are things you can control and things you can't. You can make decisions, but sometimes those decisions turn out to be irrelevant, and whichever you picked, you were going to end up in the same position because of some other decisions but it's not because of fate, just some different decisions and different circumstances other than that one. There are too many different what-if's, too many complicated factors in life. Not having control over them doesn't mean they were pre-determined though.

I suppose so. I believe that everything happens for a reason and our experiences lead us to where and who we need to be. That doesn’t always mean the outcome is pleasant, though. I don’t believe that we all have a happy ending.

I think we all have a destiny and how we get there is by learning becoming a better person a giver of self and if we stay on the right path we might get there

And if we take the wrong roads make the wrong choices we hold ourselves back

So where ever we make it to on our last day I guess that was our destiny.

I think when we are born we have all the answers. We have it all in side of us to get to or go anywhere we were born with it all. But the 2 people we were to from what was there beliefs because your only going to go as far as they went but then we turn 18 and we leave learn explore experience . And then we have kids.

Hopefully we new more than our parents and our children are better than us and they get to there destiny..

I look at it that way or our destiny is what we make it because that where we end up lol

Yes — in a way, it can feel like some parts of life are “destined,” since many events are outside our control, like where we are born or certain situations that simply happen regardless of our choices.

No — because free will still matters. The decisions you make every day influence your path and can change outcomes that don’t feel fixed or predetermined.

Our parents put us on a path of life, and if we choose to stay on the path, we will eventually arrive at our destination, so that would be our destiny.

So yes I believe in destiny, but sometimes it doesn't work out for one reason or another.

i don't believe in determinism and déjà-vus are just a memory glitch in ones brain. however i do believe in consequences and circumstances that may make outcomes look predetermined when really they aren't.
