Why do so many lottery winners end up miserable or ruined after winning?

There was a Pentecostal minister and grocery clerk who won over 16-33 million dollars in the lottery, way more than what he ever earned as a pastor with a full time minimum wage job, but he spent his money recklessly on lavish gifts and indulgences he could not afford, and two years later, he committed suicide due to depression.

My uncle was a Buddhist who believed in karma, and he said in a a Chinese study of those who won the lottery, 100% of the winners had horrible lives after.

Only one person had a good life after winning the lottery, that particular person gave 100% of their winnings to charity, gave only to those in the deepest financial need, and gave their charity money entirely in secret.
