But what if there are certain forces which are beyond our understanding but which nevertheless are real and can have an effect on us sometimes?

No one has ever been able to prove that curses exist. Sometime it is being in the wrong place at the wrong time. But believe in anything enough and you might convince yourself that it is true.

There is merit in what you are saying, and I am not saying that curses defenitively exist, but I can't rule out that certain things do exist and we are still ignorant of, or that we are not intelligent enough to understand them. In particular the way the mind interacts with the rest of the universe is pretty much a mystery. Although here again it may be the case that the mind does not interact with the universe but can only influence other minds.
