Kaifeng Jews are believed to be Jewish merchants originating from Persia that settled in the city of Kaifeng during the Song Dynasty in China. Over time though, they intermarried with the local Han Chinese and Hui Muslim populations, and were all but lost to time. But within the last few decades, the few thousand or so remaining direct descendants still survived and with the emergence of Israel and DNA testing, many more have rediscovered their roots.

Due to matrilineage being prevelant in Jewish culture and assimilation into Chinese society, anyone who is partially Jewish by blood aren't considered to be real Jews. China much like most countries around the world trace ancestry through the father aka patrilineage, and descendants often don't practice Judaism. I believe I may be part Kaifeng after ChatGPT speculated that I might be when I was asking it questions about my Hakka lineage; though unless I do a DNA test, I don't know for certain.

Basically the Hakka (literally translating to guest family) are an offshoot of Han Chinese with their own distinct culture. Originally from the NorthEast of China as far back as the Qin Dynasty (or at least the direct ancestors to the Hakka) and migrated into the SouthEast as refugees over time. Discrimination was common against the Hakka, so they're forced to become bandits, assassins, soldiers, farmers, etc., and as well as politicians, businessmen, and revolutionary leaders.

Although the Hakka kept with their own kind, they did intermarry with many different ethnic groups over the millenia. Despite not having any proof nor strong evidence, I believe I may be possibly an indirect descendant of the Kaifeng Jews because the Hakka were dispersed throughout China during the Song Dynasty. They along with other ethnic groups like the Hokkien didn't really settle mainly down south until in later dynasties. Since Hakka are considered Han Chinese and above facts, I believe I may be Kaifeng.

Supreme Court Rules In Favor Of Discrimination Of Same-Sex Couple

The Supreme Court on Friday greatly expanded the rights of people who want to discriminate against same-sex couples in a case involving an amateur website designer who was never even asked to make a website for a same-sex wedding.

In 303 Creative v. Elenis, amateur web designer Lori Smith asked the court to grant her the right under the First Amendment to refuse service to gay and lesbian couples due to her Christian religious beliefs. But Smith’s request was wholly speculative. She had not been hired to make a website for a same-sex couple and, therefore, had never refused such work. In fact, she’s never made a single wedding website.

Despite the underlying claim being totally made up, the court sided with Smith’s religious liberty argument. In a 6-3 vote, the court’s conservatives ruled that a civil rights law in Colorado that bars anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination violated Smith’s First Amendment speech rights. In doing so, they made it much easier for businesses to discriminate. A new wave of litigation further expanding discrimination is likely to follow.
Smith had claimed that Colorado’s anti-discrimination act, which prohibits denial of goods, services or facilities “because of disability, race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, national origin, or ancestry,” violated her First Amendment rights by requiring her to take commissions with what she said was a message she did not agree with — specifically, websites celebrating the weddings of same-sex couples.

Supreme Court Declares Affirmative Action In Education Unconstitutional

The Supreme Court declared affirmative action programs at public and private colleges and universities unconstitutional on Thursday in a decision written by Chief Justice John Roberts.

The decision puts an end to most systems designed to help Black and Latino students access higher education after centuries of racial discrimination. Colleges and universities will no longer be allowed to seek greater diversity of their student bodies by preferencing race, although student applicants will not be precluded from discussing their race during the application process as it relates to their individual experience. The most immediate effect will be a decrease in the number of Black and Latino students admitted to the most selective schools, studies show.

In his opinion, Roberts stated that schools are not permitted to judge candidates for admissions based on their race.

“Many universities have for too long done just the opposite,” Roberts wrote. “And in doing so, they have concluded, wrongly, that the touchstone of an individual’s identity is not challenges bested, skills built, or lessons learned but the color of their skin. Our constitutional history does not tolerate that choice.”
