What do you think of the Catholic Couple being denied from being foster parents because of their christian beliefs?

This happened in Massachusetts. They are suing over this. As someone who is atheist my self, its very easy for me to go "Ha Ha you deserved it" Or "Score one for the non Christians"... But the reality is this. Replace Christian with "Gay" Or "Muslim" or "Trans" And it becomes clear that this is a very bad thing. I have a huge problem with this issue. I could care less about their religious beliefs, If they are good people and love their children.. And their beliefs aren't extreme, there should be no reason to bar them from becoming foster parents and eventually adopting. In Massachusetts alone there are 1500 or more children who dont have a home, who are in youth homes because they can't get into foster care. This hits home for me because as a child i was in boys homes, and let me tell you, the things i was forced to endure, i would not wish on my worst enemy.

It's disturbing. Meanwhile, they don't care how radical their beliefs are to other people. The lack in maturity a person must have to not give a young child a home because you disagree with them not being fully supportive of their underage child having sex before marriage, especially if it's gay is insane.

If you saw them as good people, give them the chance to grow from the experience of raising a kid and even if they don't change, it's a lot less traumatic and harmful to be raised in a loving family that tries to guide you in a specific direction rather than be totally lost and grow up with no clear sense of morals, purpose, family etc.

What makes a person healthy isn't necessarily what values they hold, just that they believe in them. At least, for the most part.

And yes, even though it would make me cringe, I'd be saying the same thing if the roles were reversed.

Given the high rate of homelessness of queer youth due to being unsafe in their own home, and the high rate of suicide most directly effected by family support/rejection, I absolutely agree with this decision.

It's the same idea as not letting a couple use a surrogate bc they practice a religion that supports the abuse of girls, and you have no way to tell if the baby will come out a girl or not.

It sucks, but I don't see any way you could trust parents like these to care for any child, because you know they would actively harm certain children.

Yea, I stopped listening to him years ago when one of his dogs was going through some health problems. He was too mentally wrecked to talk about politics or debate people. Never held it against him. Heard his podcast a few months ago and he seems back to normal which I thought was impressive.

This is sick. I can't believe those people were discriminated against for their religious beliefs. What's next, will we ban physical discipline? It says right in scripture that parents are supposed to beat their children with rods if they disobey. To deny a parent that right is clear religious discrimination! And what are we going to ban child marriages too? It's biblical for young girls to be married to adult men. Then what—incest? Rape? Child genital mutilation? Even child sacrifice? We are opening up the door to serious religious persecution and all these religious practices being outright BANNED!

Just let the nice Christian couple buy some children, for goodness' sake. It doesn't matter what they're going to do to them—this isn't about children's "rights." It is that couples' religious RIGHT to own however many children they want.

I see where you're coming from, and of course I agree that nobody should be denied a chance to provide a child a safe home due to their religion. The issue here wasn't with their religion though. The issue was with their beliefs on marriage and gender, which unfortunately revealed that their home is not safe—unless there was a way to guarantee all children they foster are cishet, which there isn't.
