Supreme Court Protects Voting Rights In Racial Gerrymandering Case

In a surprise decision, the Supreme Court agreed that Alabama violated the Voting Rights Act by diluting the Black vote when it drew new congressional maps following the 2020 census.

The 5-4 decision written by Chief Justice John Roberts found that Alabama Republicans improperly denied Black communities a second congressional district by packing them into one district and splitting them into other majority white districts. The decision was joined by liberal Justices Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson and conservative Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

The decision in Allen v. Milligan comes as a shock as the court’s conservatives have repeatedly gutted the Voting Rights Act in cases over the past decade including Shelby County v. Holder and Brnovich v. Democratic National Committee.

In his decision, Roberts firmly rejected Alabama’s arguments in favor of a new race-neutral standard to govern racial gerrymandering cases brought under Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act as “novel.”

“The heart of these cases is not about the law as it exists,” Roberts wrote. “It is about Alabama’s attempt to remake our [Section 2] jurisprudence anew.”

Alabama will now be required to redraw its congressional district map to provide for a second majority-Black district. The decision will have extended consequences too as both plaintiffs in Louisiana and Georgia claimed similar racial discrimination in redistricting in cases that were pending at the Supreme Court. This could lead to the creation of one new Black-majority district in each state.

Some benefits:

-People automatically assume you are a good person

-Face less discrimination compared to people of other races

-Usually don't face any barriers when it comes to dating compared to other minorities

-Minorities (e. g. blacks, Asians, Indians) all seem to want you or you have an easier time of getting them as a partner.

-People are often more friendlier towards you

-Teachers treat you better

-You are given the benefit of the doubt and not deemed guilty right away

-People are more forgiving of your fuck ups in life

Terrorism- The act of killing and destroying property!

Sexism- Discrimination against the idea of gender usually effects women the most.

War- When two separate countries be in a disastrous battle.

Homophobia- Discrimination against people who not attracted to the opposite gender.

Racism- Discrimination against people who are a different ethnicity or skin tone usually affects non-white people the most.

Poverty- The problem of losing your house or living arrangement and must live on the streets or homeless shelters.

World Hunger- The issue of not having enough food to allow people to eat.

I just discovered this story of 1973's Navy recruit that turned radicalized Black Panther after experiencing a lot of discrimination...

Ended up turning into a mass shooting in 1973 in which he shot 9 people, primarily "honies" (aka white people), but shot black people too, in New Orleans.

That's some history I didn't know...

It goes to show, we need to treat each other with care and respect at all possible opportunities. You never know how someone was treated or abused in life and people can snap.

What do you plan to do about your rage and hate?

If someone’s political beliefs are causing them to be disruptive and/or prevents them from effectively getting their job done than it should be grounds for dismissal.

However if a person just minds their own business and you find out on social media or elsewhere that they have strong leftist/conservative beliefs then who cares? Seriously who gives a sh*t as long as they are good at their job and don’t cause any problems in the workplace?

Anyway most states have no laws to protect employees against their political beliefs.

However many people myself included have experienced very real past discrimination because of this (e. g. cancel culture). Should this change?
