Most women and girls these days wear makeup, contact lens, thread their eyebrows which looked the same most of the time as for dyeing their hair, it’s getting common but not extremely common due to the job they had. Most of the time when they see me, they look a while and didn’t give a shit which was a good thing, since I hated being stared at. Then at my previous job as an IT Helpdesk agent, Dorcas the marketing assistant sometimes kept looking at me. The first time she looked at me, her expression then changed to soul mood, she even looked at me from head to toe like she was comparing herself to me.

She had eyelash extensions, makeup, contact lens and dyed hair. The second time, I was in a bus waiting for the bus to drop at a specific bus stop so I can get off, that’s when I felt that someone was staring at me, when I looked up from my phone, I saw another girl. She was the same race as me, with dyed blonde hair, makeup, contact lens and threaded eyebrows. She was already glaring at me, not staring at me in a polite way. The way she stared at me was very uncomfortable, I didn’t recognise her because she was a random stranger and not someone I knew. There was a hint of jealousy from her expression. Firstly I didn’t wear any makeup, wear any contacts, thread my eyebrows to look like a Korean star and lastly I didn’t dye my hair whatsoever. And yet she was jealous of me like what the heck? Sometimes being a woman doesn’t mean I understand all women. The reasons why I didn’t put in effort to look very attractive was because: 1: I didn’t want to spend money unnecessarily. 2: I didn’t want to attract attention and 3: I didn’t want to get jealous looks.

I always thought that me not beautifying myself won’t make anyone jealous at all but still there will always be some others who wants to compare themselves to me. It seems I was extremely naive when I thought that not beautifying myself means not a single person will be jealous.

If for whatever reason a girlfriend declines a marriage proposal (I've seen it happened before) is it the equivalent of a man rejecting an attractive woman's offer for sex?

There is the opportunity and they are rejecting it. Would both situations be similar? For men it's already hard to get a random woman interested in just sex and for us it's hard to get a man to propose. By rejecting that opportunity, they're rejecting what most within their gender want.
Secondly both rejections are direct blows to your ego/pride; the man is left wondering why would she say no that and the girl that got rejected for sex is left wondering if she's ugly or something.
