Lets say our world leaders decided to nuke the planet but luckily YOU and your family and/or friends found yourselves safely inside a bunker with all the amenities and such neeed to to live out the rest of your days down there comfortably. You got a lifetime supply of food, water, soap, shampoo, toilet paper. you got a room with plenty of books to read. a tv with video games movies and such to watch and play. you get a gym area to workout in. showers/baths, beds. all of it... but the big drawback is you can not go back outside again or face the possibility of succumbing to the dangerous nuclear fallout.

If it is manipulated, I suspect that's what it is, it's done to adjust your psychology to think the people in charge are doing a good job. Power of the traders under control of the govt. They will do everything they can to manage your perceptions. Each prior govt did the same back to at least Obama, there's nothing new here.

They generally have to make up for the drop in price by rising it higher to compensate. Not to mention, constriction in corn production due to draught, higher fertilizer prices meaning higher corn prices next year and thus higher corn cost of. ethanol... I'd expect costs to go way up again even as they tap the Strategic petroleum reserve, unless signs of global economy slow down show up.
