My suggestions: The first meeting should be relatively brief, and that is much more likely if you meet at a restaurant for dinner rather than going to the family home. Ask your partner how you should dress and follow their suggestions. Don't make an effort to create a favorable impression; most parents know when you are being fake. No profanity. No sloppy kissing in front of parents. No mention of previous relationships. No mention of discussions you and your partner have had about the future. The most important thing for parents to learn at the first meeting is that you love your partner and want him/her to be happy.

GOP Rep. Eli Crane Sparks Fierce Criticism After Saying ‘Colored People’ On House Floor

Rep. Eli Crane (R-Ariz.) referred to non-white Americans serving in the U. S. military as “colored people” in a shocking moment on the House floor Thursday, prompting a sharp rebuke from the former chair of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Crane, a member of the far-right House Freedom Caucus, put forward an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act on Thursday that would ban consideration of “race, gender, religion, or political affiliations, or any other ideological concepts” in recruitment or promotion decisions as well as other aspects of military retention.

Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio), who chaired the Congressional Black Caucus from 2021 to 2023, took to the floor to argue the proposal would set back rights gained by people of color and women. Crane then went on to reject her arguments:

“I hope my colleagues on the other side can understand what we’re doing,” he said in closing.

Another person in the chamber can be heard questioning the term “colored people” before Beatty interjects.

“I’d like to be recognized to have the words ‘colored people’ stricken from the record,” she said. “I find it offensive and very inappropriate. … I am asking for unanimous consent to take down the words of referring to me or any of my colleagues as ‘colored people.’”

Crane later asked to have his comments amended to “people of color.” That request was rejected but the words “colored people” were removed from the record without objection.

Democrats were livid. The Congressional Black Caucus said Crane’s words were “unconscionable,” adding it was a “shameful moment on the House floor.”

Let's set the stage here:
Since having moved back in with my parents while finding a new place of my own, I've had the chore of mowing the lawn impressed upon me, which I have no issue with whatsoever

We have more recently (within the last 1 1/2-2 years) had a new drain field put in our back yard, which included a sizeable dirt mound that has created a "hill" that needs to be mowed.

Here's where the issue lies:
My father has requested of me to not mow the hill/mound with the riding mower, and instead mow it with the small push mower that we are borrowing from a family member.

I feel that this request is a bit arbitrary, due to the fact that I've used the riding mower on the mound before with no issue multiple times.

My father is in the mindset that using the riding mower on the hill will cause the transmission to slip on the riding mower, to which my thoughts are: why would they make a riding mower that wouldn't be able to go up and down hills?"

So the question remains, is his request a bit arbitrary or am I being an asshole by telling him that using the riding mower on the hill is not gonna cause any problems?

P. S. if for some crazy instance where the transmission were to go up, I would be willing to pay for the replacement. (Even though I highly doubt that it'll happen)

South Dakota lawmaker calls Mount Rushmore demonic portal for communism

A member of South Dakota’s House of Representatives went on a podcast and claimed that Mount Rushmore is a “freemason shrine” and a portal for demonic entities to enter and spread communism throughout the country.

“What the Lord has revealed to me is that Mount Rushmore has a direct ley line to Washington, D. C.,” Joe Donnell, a Republican member of the South Dakota House of Representatives, said in a May 31 episode of the “Now Is the Time” podcast.

“In order to understand the spiritual realm of what we’re facing, we have to realize that in order for the enemy to do anything, it needs the agreement of human beings. In order to be empowered to do more damage he needs the agreement of human beings and oftentimes that comes in the form of an altar that acts as a portal for other demonic things. What we’re really dealing with in that portal is communism. That witchcraft, altar, those things that are happening in the Black Hills, what we’re dealing with is communism. It’s the ideology and all the demonic entities and spirits behind that.”

Donnell, who was elected to the South Dakota House in 2022, is also a member of the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate tribe. The land that Mount Rushmore was built on is considered sacred to Native Americans.

The Mount Rushmore National Memorial said it would not respond to Donnell’s comments.
