I would definitely want some things to be different about it, but It feels like being an adult is so far away, And your job is just to play and learn basically. I mean of course you don’t have the same level of freedom, but still….

First and foremost, lying is a NET POSITIVE as it has evolved among ALL species studied for the propensity for deception. The simple, harsh truth is that liars gain advantage and people who do not lie or cannot tell they're being lied to are, inferior, from an evolutionary standpoint. Suck it up. Liars win. Marks lose.

Lies we tell to PROTECT OURSELVES:

We might lie to avoid punishment. For example, children often lie about whether they have completed their homework. If they tell the truth, their parents might insist that the homework be done immediately, which could preclude their participation in a recreational activity.

We might lie to prevent ourselves from being embarrassed about behavior we regret or because we don’t want to reveal private information that might be used against us. We may worry that public awareness of such information can cause us stress or anxiety.

We might lie to avoid conflict. For example, a spouse may choose not to tell the truth about how they feel about their spouse’s behavior for fear that an uncomfortable disagreement might arise.

We might lie to gain social acceptance from a particular group. For example, we might feign interest in a subject matter to join a group that extols that subject. Or, we could post partial truths or fabrications on social media to become popular.

We might lie to get ahead in a competition or business. For example, a businessman might falsely claim great success in the past to secure a new business interest. Such lies can also make us feel better about ourselves when others believe us.

We might lie in a relationship to maintain control. For example, we might falsely state that we have brought a lot of money into a partnership.

Lies we tell to protect others:

We might lie about an illegal activity undertaken by a friend so that the friend does not suffer from negative consequences.

We might lie about something to spare the feelings of someone else.

Are the range of crimes that can fit beneath a 1-year sentence (misdemeanor) or a multi-year sentence (felony) adequate to communicate the severity of the crime to interested parties like employers, insurers, landlords, etc?

Should a level of charge that is say 30 or 60 days be created?

Should I level of charge that is say 1 to 5 or 6 to 10 years be created?

Should misdemeanors have an expiration date where they are dropped completely from official records? Only recorded as a misdemeanor with no obligation to disclose what it was?

Many stakeholders in the criminal justice system have advocated that felonies be categorized into violent or nonviolent with the intent being that a non-violent felonies do not need to be disclosed to employers unless it is absolutely germane to the job (like applying for an accountant if you've been convicted of tax evasion)?

Gun owners have advocated for the same in order that non-violent felons can keep their guns.

Do you have any thoughts about when minors are charged with MAJOR crimes and how that should be handled? Family court? Sealed records? Psychiatric incarceration? Lower the age or give DA more discretion to charge kids as adults?

Being Irish isn’t a skill. It’s a fucking genetic accident. You wouldn’t say, “I’m proud to be 5’11”. I’m proud to have a predisposition for colon cancer. So, why the fuck would you be proud to be Irish or proud to be Italian or American or anything? Hey, if you’re happy with it, that’s fine. Do that. Put that on your car. “Happy to be an American.” Be happy. Don’t be proud. Too much pride as it is. Pride goeth before a fall."
