I feel there's a major contradiction. For many years religion abused science through indoctrination and power. They can coexist, but they don't mix, because religion is walking backwards in faith and hoping someone will catch you, and science is pure facts and educated guesses.
Nope. That's what people do to people. Thousands of people were killed in the nuclear explosion in Nagasaki. Will you blame science for that? No. Yo will blame those who used science to create such weapons and those who used them. You have do to the same thing for religion. If we reason like you, we will find that science have done so much evil than religion.
"Religion teaches us to be O. K. with not knowing anything, or having blind faith." No, that is what people teach to keep other people in the dark. Religion, I'll say Christianism because I don't know much about other religions encourages people to use their intelligence to examine everything. It is in the New Testament. I forgot the verse. But I think it is Paul congrtulating Christians in some region because they don't accept everything blindly but they examine what they are taught. That is TRUE religion. Once more, don't mix up what religions says and what people say.
It does, and on many levels... Usually for religion to fit around science it takes a lot of imaginative interpretations and translations or some bits just have to be completely ignored.
It depends on your interpretation if religion. Science directly contradicts the Bible story of Genesis, but only if you believe the story is literally true.
Yup and most do not know that the early theologians did not believe it to be literal. Augustine seems to have believed in something akin the evolution.
Science and religion do not contradict each other, most influential scientists are religious. However I'm not going to comment on which is more 'right' then the other, since neither are completely proven.
Science always contradicts religion which is what would make something a religion. A religion is what people believe in despite of scientific evidence and logic.
I agree with u but we can't build Islam in specific on a theory like the big bang theory it like has hints in the quran but u still can't say quran mentioned the big bang

"For many years religion abused science through indoctrination and power" : religion did not. People did. Don't mix up things !
@DonyChicago That's what religion does to people.

So much more evil than religion.
@DonyChicago , Science has taught us to question everything. religion teaches us to be O. K. with not knowing anything, or having blind faith.
Nope religion was a driving factor in many scientific discoveries from Egypt to now.
Yes, but during the dark ages, people killed atheists.
@Marstalk
History shows it did not just happen in the dark ages. Have atheists killed religious people as well yes.
when did atheists kill religious people?
@Marstalk when did atheists kill religious people?
Stalin and Mussolini too.

Hitler, although mentioned, is religious. @Marstalk
Yes he was. I never did say religious people do kill or start blood baths.
"Yes, but during the dark ages, people killed atheists." I think much more religious people were killed by atheist than the contrary.

Religion contradicts science not the other way around. Science is just that factual can be proven
Well when it comes to science, many findings are not necessarily seen as Factual rather they are seen as most plausible.
That is a theory
It does, and on many levels... Usually for religion to fit around science it takes a lot of imaginative interpretations and translations or some bits just have to be completely ignored.

You don't need science to contradict religion, Religion will do that for you itself.
Science and religion can coexist as long as religion is willing to make concessions (e. g. intelligent design).
I guess it depends on what religion we're talking about.
Science is more relateable because of the logic.
Not all religious contradict. Mine does not. That's one of many reasons I like is :)
Science always contradicts religion which is what would make something a religion. A religion is what people believe in despite of scientific evidence and logic.

Science explains the mechanisms and inner workings of God's creations. So I think they go hand in hand.
no. many scientific concepts were developed by religious people. it's a false dichotomoy.
This article ended abruptly.
It doesn't really prove religion wrong.
Does religion contradict science?
