#1: It makes no sense on the surface

At what point during anyone's life has there been an attraction to others based solely on their grey matter? That is to say who here, by show of hands, wants a piece of this guy:

Does that make your man-turtle come out of it's shell? Does that moisten the undercloths? I am sure that one person will raise their hands unashamed (perhaps just to prove me wrong?) but the majority admit that debilitating disease and being crippled is not really that attractive no matter how smart you are. By the way how many people, by show of hands, are attracted to really stupid people and by that I mean their actual stupidity and nothing else about them? Zero? How shocking!

#2: It makes no sense underneath the surface

Discussing what the term would actually mean sapiosexuality, a term recently came up with in history by the way, is a distinct attraction to intelligence. So let's think on this for a moment; are sapiosexuals gaga for people in MENSA? I use MENSA because it is actually the lowest of the IQ societies where 1 in 6 humans are likely applicable. Let's try Mega Society created by Dr. Hoelfin in the 1980's for those who are 1 in 1,000,000? Can someone who doesn't even have an IQ of 123 turn on a sapio-?

The question here is simple: How do you measure something like this? Has anyone noticed there are no dating sites dedicated solely to the IQ score that are actually popular? Listing your IQ on your dating profile does how much to attract the general population? Zero? How shocking!

#3: It's just bad latin...

So, you're still a sapiosexual are you? Are you sure you're not a sapiophile? Let's look at the four most understandable prefixes in humans: pedo, ebilio, adulto, and geronto; that's right, these are the age philias. When a person has any of those prefixes tacked onto the suffix "philia" it describes what age group they are attracted to under a known sexuality. This means that for adultophilia which most humans express heterosexuality would suggest that the person likes adults of the opposite sex while homosexual adultophilia & bisexual adultophilia would suggest their correct understandings. "Adulto" is rarely stated since it's the norm but all humans generally have a target age group they are attracted to, and so onto our lesson.

Sapiosexual ... a person who is sexually attracted to intelligence (stupid right?) is a stupid misunderstanding of latin! Sapiophilia would be the attraction to a show of intelligence in a person's behavior or some other measurement that may exist such as an IQ score. Heterosexual sapiophilia, homosexual sapiophilia, and bisexual sapiophilia are all at least a whole lot more valid than "sapiosexual adultophile". The reason is that you can have many philias, as they are generally subclasses, but only one sexuality at any given time. Yes, I left out pan-, omni-, trans-, a-, etc. sexuality but it's to make a point not to create a list of possibilities. Anyway, show of hands, who here is actually fluent in latin from grade school education? Zer- oh, well some of you damn privatized bastards, ruining my tag line.

#4: It isn't even necessary

There is a large number of philias many of which actually break down other philias. The reason sapiosexuality didn't exist is particularly because of things like philsophilia which is the love for the learning of philosophy, and not to go on a tirade I'll just say that there is a number for each main subject including math, science, language, etc. so really there is no point to even having the word which does not sum up anything because as discussed measurement itself is not particularly quantifiable (I can use big words too!) and therefore renders itself unnecessary. After all if one is only attracted to mathematicians based on their avidness with math they would be an arithmaticosexual (?) versus a sapiosexual. Again, number of people who are just wowed by a broad array of intellectual subjects with no particular focuses for the basis of their fascination? Zero? Correct.

So the next time you're thinking you're a sapiosexual let this be a reminder that you are not, unless you an idiot, which ironically means you probably need to be a sapiosexual in case you breed lest your child inherit your "sapiosexual tendencies" and become an idiot as well.

Sapiophilia / Saphiophile is a lot more accurate. I'm not sure why Sapiosexual exists.

I don't know how you can be born with an attraction to something as vague and abstract as "smart people."

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of people who have very high IQs who are intelligent. But your IQ does not dominate your personality traits.

You can be attracted to people who are outwardly intelligent. Many men and women do get turned on by someone who knows what they're talking. They exude a clear confidence.
But they're attractive because they're confident. If you removed the confidence from an intelligent person, I can assure you a lot of sapiophiles would be far less attracted.

If anything, it's an attraction to intellectual dominance. It's no different from some women having an attraction to physical dominance.
There's nothing wrong with it. You do not choose what influences your attraction. So people who are turned on by those who are intellectually dominant should not be shamed for it.

My issue with the term sapiosexual is that it's misleading. It doesn't belong with any of the other terms that have the -sexual suffix. Sapiophile is far more accurate.

You're right that it makes no sense to be sexually attracted to someone *primarily* because of their intelligence. That said, intelligence is a necessary ingredient in attraction for me. I can look at a male model and find him physically very attractive but I have no interest in being with him just for looks alone. And the higher the level of intelligence, the more attracted I am.

I think that the term is linguistically incorrect in a formal sense, but it is also useful as a descriptor (if redefined to mean "finds intelligence a critical part of attraction"), and therefore should qualify as a usable word.

We all have different levels of inteillgence. Some people appear to have no common sense , and they are often referred to as stupid. There's a huge difference between knowledge and wisdom. We are all capable of taking in more knowledge. If someone has a little background knowledge about a topic everyone assumes they are " brainy" , but that doesn't necessarily mean they fully understand what they are saying.

It was fun and there are some good points.

But lets be clear, being intelligent and stimulating on an intellectual level does bump up your rating significantly. It has been the main reason I can date outside of my own "league" with relative ease. That and, well, confidence. Looking a little better than average probably doesn't hurt.

No one ever fawned over my 153 IQ score though. So maybe it isn't IQ that does it. S.. S.. Social intelligence?

In reality, putting any part of humanity or society into a binary system is often inaccurate and unhealthy. People are rarely ever A or B.

If we did away with overt gender stereotyping and gender exclusion a lot of people who are genderfluid/queer would probably be less nonconforming.

Don't get me wrong, I love a woman in a dress and thigh highs, both very traditionally feminine things. A guy in them does not take away from that though, because I do not find dudes sexually appealing.

One reason people aren't conforming to a gender is because they feel like society is obsessed with an unhealthy binary of you are a boy, you act this way, you are a girl, you act this way.

The circumstances of your birth do not determine who you are.

Which brings us to the case of someone who is intersex. Or even has a micropenis, which is commonly a penis that wasn't sure if it was going to be a clitoris or not. Again, that deformation does not determine their personality.

It is a deformity, but it's not wrong (immoral). If it brings health complications, those should be addressed. Otherwise, why even worry about it? Again, it is not wrong (immoral). And it does not affect the person's health.
