To tell everyone the truth there is no right of passage to be a goth. In my family children are raised to be goth by tradition and literature so seeing these elistic kids running around saying "you're not a real goth if..." sounds pretty ridiculas to us. Plus based on my experence the people who say those things only stay in the culture 1-2 years... and trust me I have a lot of experence! My parents have been taking me to events envolving the gothic community my whole life and those bratty teens, they all come in so passionently wanting to be a "hard core goth" but they they leave never to be seen again exept on Facebook looking nothing like they did before. here's some things I'd like to go over.
1. You can be friends with people who are not involved in gothic culture.
my best friend in the world is far from goth, Does that mean I should love her any less? NO!! A person is a person no matter how they dress.
2. You can listen to whatever music you like.
Ignore the styrotypes! If you're goth and like pop thats ok.
3. You can date someone who isn't goth.
Again its ok to like people with different styles it doesn't matter
