Bohemian style really came of age in the 60's and 70s. Part of it was a rejection of the conformity of the previous eras with their more plain stiff fabrics and rules man, lol. Adapting this form of dress is about loosening up and having a relaxed air about your style, and perhaps even, your life. The words flowy, artsy, creative, naturalist, and 70s rocker come to mind.

Your style staples are floppy hats, bell bottom pants, crochet everything, maxi dresses, distressed jeans, boots, bangles, fringe, cut-offs, faux furs, prairie skirts, and chokers. The clothes can have a cowgirl, Native American, African, or Indian influence. Your patterns of choice are Suzani, tie dye, paisley and floral. Everything is loose and flowy and creates movement when you walk.

Unlike a lot of other styles, don't be afraid to mix and match your patterns and fabrics. This style has very few rules when it comes to what necessarily has to go with what. However, if you want to reign it in, stick to the all important earth tone color scheme of clays, earthen browns, deep sage, burgundy, mustard, black, etc. Add on to your ensemble with ethnic jewelry pieces, big white brimmed hates, multi-layered necklaces, and chunky or dangly earrings. Natural is best when it comes to your make-up or lack thereof and your hair. Wear your big bouncy curls, or stick straight hair, or big fluffy fro, or add a few braids and come as you are.
