Ode To Philadelphia: The Sh#t I Didn't Show!

CHARismatic110

So if you've ever watched a season of the Real World, they always air an episode of some of the scenes and things that didn't make the cut. It's so eloquently titled "The Sh#t They Should've Shown" lol. If you've read my last Take, then you've gotten a taste of Philly. Well I'm back at it again (at the request of a few people) to show you some more of the city of brotherly love. Let's go!

South Street

Ode To Philadelphia: The Sh#t I Didn't Show!

South Street holds a lot of memories for me. And probably most of the locals in Philly. Think of a mall, but outside. South Street is a strip that stretches from 4th and South to around 12th and South. It's filled with stores, boutiques, bars, and a bunch of places to eat. It's a smorgasbord of miscellaneous that draws in locals and tourists alike.

Just to give you an example, in the picture you can see a Starbucks. And that blue place across from it is a bar/restaurant called Copa's. A few steps down from that bar is where the Theater of the Living Arts is. There you can catch a show/concert. You can get a cheesesteak from the very popular spot, Ishkabibbles or you can walk down a block or 2 and eat at the old school diner, Johnny Rocket's. There's also a Fat Tuesdays and Whole Foods. There's a little bit of something for everyone on South Street. There used to be a comic book store there that my friend and I used to walk to everyday in the summer. The air was always on blast and the owner would let us sit in there and read comics for hours. That's where I fell in love Archie and Betty and Veronica. Afterwards we'd go to Ishkabibbles and get a nice cold gremlin. That's half grape juice/half lemonade. Cue the nostalgia.

And I can't mention South Street without showing you guys Magical Gardens!

These pictures don't really do it justice. Just imagine the sun setting around this place and reflecting off all of the glass and tiles. It's beautiful. And that's an understatement.

Penn's Landing

Ode To Philadelphia: The Sh#t I Didn't Show!

Penn's Landing is another cool place. It's by the waterfront and a pretty popular spot for couples and families. One of the big things is the Moshulu, which is a floating restaurant. Yes, a restaurant on a boat. Another big thing is the River rink ice skating that's open in the winter. There are also lots of festivals and free events that happen here too. Especially in the summer.

Spruce Street Harbor Park

This year will be the 3rd year that SSHP will be around. It started as just a one time thing but because of the popularity, it's become a seasonal thing. At Spruce Street Harbor Park you can relax in one of the many hammocks, play some of the games that they have on the makeshift boardwalk, enjoy a beer or drink, and take pictures in the big red chair of course! It's located by the water and it's all lit up at night. Fun times. And of course I got my picture!

The Mummers Parade

Ode To Philadelphia: The Sh#t I Didn't Show!

The Mummers Parade is a HUGE deal here in Philly. It takes place on New Year's Day and has been happening for over 100 years. It's all things colorful and crazy. A bunch of different groups dress up in costumes and perform numbers that they've put together throughout the year. They march down broad street and intimate center city. Though lately there's been some issues with people not wanting them to march in certain areas and also some distasteful acts at this years parade.

Philly Slang

This video is pretty accurate lol. Another popular word they missed is "joe". Here in Philadelphia we use "joe" to describe someone who's being extra or hype about something. Over enthusiastic if you will.

And that wraps up this Take. I hope you guys enjoy!

Stay classy GaGers. 😎
