Halloween is quickly approaching. A holiday where scary movies, pumpkins, trick-or-treaters, and hay rides dominate the scene for a whole month before being taken over by the one holiday in December that is decorated for in October but takes two whole months to arrive.
I officially count Halloween as the start to the "Holiday Season" as after October 31st Christmas music seems to hit us Americans out of nowhere. With that being said here are some classicTV shows to get you in the mood for Halloween.
The Twilight Zone
An original series that focuses on the supernatural, ghosts, spells, utopian societies etc. You name it, this show has had a story on it. Rod Serling created this show "Submitted For Your Approval" for us the viewers to enter into another dimension of sight and sound. A dimension that is known as "The Twilight Zone." This show ran from 1959-1964 but all the episodes can be found on Netflix.
The Addams Family
This classic TV series ran from 1964-1966 and in several reincarnations in cartoons, movies, plays, musicals etc... The family consists of: Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester who is always blowing himself up, and the butler Lurch. They may be spooky but they are also funny to watch.
American Horror Story
This show is good that every season is always a new setting and storyline. Season 2 was in an asylum. Season 3 was about a witch coven. Season 4 was about a circus freak show. Last season was about a hotel. Reportedly this season is about the Roanoke Colony of North Carolina from what I have heard. I like the cast that they always try to bring back each season such as Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Jessica Lange, Lady Gaga, and Emma Roberts (although I think she's on Scream Queens now?) . I just think this show is plenty violent, gory, and sexual enough to keep it on television without having to air it on a channel like HBO.
Unsolved Mysteries
Not going to lie this show kinda creeped me out as a kid. The voice of that old man who hosted the program was enough to scare me. This show focuses on alien abductions, conspiracy theories and secret history among other topics. I kinda describe it like a modern Twilight Zone.
Honorable Mentions:
The X-Files
Supernatural
The Dead Zone
Danny Phantom
Tales from the Darkside
Goosebumps
Tales from the Crypt
Gravity Falls
Yes I know I was going to add this in there. But, It really is a good show to get you in the Halloween spirit. This cartoon features zombies, gnomes ,lake monsters, conspiracies, Illuminati, freemasonry, evil clones, ciphers, codes, cryptic paintings and photos, even minotaurs. Even though it is pretty Disney-fied I would really recommend it as it really isn't typical Disney style.
Yasss :) Twilight Zone, love the shows-they get me more riled up than gory shows. And Tales from the Crypt and Goosebumps <3 love them too. Have you ever seen the Regular Show Halloween special?
American Horror Story is twisted. The first season was good but the second couldn't hold my interest. And this last season, the hotel, is weird and disturbing. Can't do it.
Twilight Zone: the show where you don't know whether you should be scared, sad, happy, thoughtful, or disturbed. Such a great show, always with a wonderful plot twist and a moral to every story.
Oh man, I remember Tales from the Crypt. Used to watch that late at night when I was a teenager... thought it was the coolest thing. Caught an episode a few years ago and holy CRAP was that one big pile of cheeseball garbage. :P
