The Doomsday Clock is Faulty.

I'm pretty sure we all know what this is. The Doomsday clock it is what indicated how close humanity is to complete and utter annihilation or at least the event of a catastrophe. Currently it's at 2 minutes to midnight and while it does have its place, I personally feel saying we're 2 minutes to global doom is a little panicky. Now we must keep in mind I am only going to be talking about the clock in conjunction with the threat of nuclear war, climate change is a whole other kettle of fish.

Now why do i think that the doomsday clock is faulty?
Well to answer that we must look at the 5 big boys in the world (I.E the ones confirmed to have nukes) That being the U.S, France, The U.K, Russia and China. And the short answer to this is that NONE of them want a fight nor do any of them have a reason to start a full nuclear war.

The U.S, Franks and the U.S are all on friendly terms with each other so none of them have a reason to start anything. Russia and China are on unfriendly terms with the west...but unfriendly isn't the same as enemy.

Not to mention neither of them have a reason to fight either. For one China is benefiting too much from the global economy to ruin that in any capacity. And Russia knows better then anyone (Save maybe the U.S) that trying to declare war callously could potentially end in tragedy. In fact it almost did.

The closest we've ever gotten to global doom, was the Cuban missile crisis in 1962. In fact it was pretty much pure luck that we are even still alive today, as that was pretty much the only time in history where we were 1 minute to midnight. And both parties involved took steps to make sure it never happened again.

So in short, the 5 countries that could potentially drown the world in war have no reason to do so, but what about places like north Korea i might hear you asking? It's Important to predict how both parties would react in this regard. For all of Kim Jong Uns bolstering, he knows that launching a nuke unprovoked is suicide. General Yamamoto once said famously "once the U.S enters the war, we have about 6 months to win. If we do not win within that Timeframe, the war is lost" And if North Korea started a war....they would have a month to win at best, and that's with old technology, a malnourished army and low countrywide moral.

For further proof of this all we need to do is look at the upcoming meeting between the U.S and North korea coming in April. That's proof North Korea is feeling the pressure. They never would have agreed to do so otherwise. That said I don't see them stopping their nuclear weapons program, as NK has claimed that without it the U.S or any of its allies would swoop in and sack the place.....sad thing is thats not "Untrue" as we saw once Hussein and Gaddafi dropped their programs, both meeting rather.....gruesome ends either by u.s forces or their own people.

As for the U.S it would actually be even more damning for trump to launch a nuke on his own.

Look trump can not go to war unless 2 things happen. He either has the support of the people(which will never happen) or we get attacked first. and even then he has to go through multiple checks and balances to get approved to go to war and launch a nuke. Trying to ignore either of these will likely end in him in the best case scenario getting impeach and being branded as a war criminal. or at worse shamed imprisoned and even executed. Besides America is in such a position of strength, we are perfectly fine waiting for someone else to make the first move, and then chucking it back in their face wobbuffet style if need be.

With all this being said, saying we are 2 minutes to midnight is very inaccurate. Especially considering we moved up 30 solely because trump is in office. While i can't say exactly where it would be, for me it's safe to assume we are in the 3 to 6 minute area in reality. I just don't see some world ending war happening without humanity being collectively unlucky.
