semi auto military firearms have been around for almost a century. meanwhile these sensationalized shootings were almost ALL committed relatively LATELY by ONE demographic: FATHERLESS younger men. the guns DIDN'T change- PEOPLE changed , after the welfare state destroyed the nuclear family.

The productivity increases that are brought about when transport is used most likely saves more lives than it takes. Guns do not. I don't even agree with a gun ban but this analogy is brain dead.

Actually guns save more lives than take. They are used in countless attempted crimes successfully every day. Far outnumbering murders even. Unfortunately the FBI refuses to specifically track this information since the findings would obviously make political waves. However there are tons of records of people who went to carjack or burgaler a home and are greeted with a gun and either get shot, or just see it and retreat without any shots fired. I personal had done this. A man was harassing me and my girlfriend and got a little violent when he tried to force his way into our vehichle and i pulled my gun at him and he ran away. So yes guns absolutely save tons of lives every year.

I was obviously talking about public access to guns. And I think looking at homicide rate stats in other countries after buybacks shows this. As to the first comment about a truck killing people, my view about transport considers this, the productivity gains make up for the lives lost.

I am sure that without modern transport, people would have to work, walk, carry much more around, that would make them much more fitter, - as a result cardiovascular diseases and diabetes (top killers in the world) would fall sharply.
