Ladies, do you like when a guy writes you a poem?

My buddy Jay used to write poems for his girlfriends but he stopped because shortly after writing the poem they would break it off with him. So could it have been because he showed his softer side?

I don't know. The very few times I've had a guy write me a poem I felt really uncomfortable and kinda creeped out. But I wasn't dating them or anything. I think if I was in a relationship with them for a while and they wrote it and left it on my pillow with a flower or something then I'd feel totally different and think that it was really sweet. But again, we'd have to have been in the relationship for a while, like at least half a year. Then it'd be something to like let me know that even though the "honeymoon" phase was over, he still cared about me.

I mean, I'm not a big flower person either and feel the same way (awkward) when a guy gives me roses...unless I've been with him for a while. So I think the comfort level has something to do with it.

It depends. If I liked a guy I'd love it, no matter what. A poem is pretty intense though, so if if my feelings for him were not also pretty intense, it could seem like too much and be uncomfortable. (And if it's bad poetry, that would make it worse!) Mostly, I think it depends on whether the feelings expressed are mutual or not. I really don't think it's an issue of him showing a softer side. My boyfriend read me poetry on a date and I thought it was totally hot! (And I think most girls like a guy who has a softer side, so that's not a problem.) Maybe he should just wait until he knows the relationship is good and secure before he whips out the poetry. But once he does (and if he's GOOD at it) it will be very romantic...

The younger generation find it creepy, I'm not sure why. Tell your friend that it's best to write a girl a poem AFTER a relationship has been established.

Depends. My boyfriend wrote me several, and I have to say, they are really good, and super sweet. I liked it.
