A lot of random adult men and women tell me I'm pretty. When we're talking out of the blue they'll just randomly say I'm pretty. But even though people tell you you're pretty it doesn't necessarily mean it's true.
So do they really mean it? If strangers tell you you're beautiful, is it really true?
Nobody is forced to randomly tell you that you're beautiful. I'm pretty sure that they mean what they're saying!
I get called cute and people often tell me i look like someone, like some random guy came to me and said I look like Marzia Bisognin (have heard that couple of times from different people, its weird) and once some random guy said to me i look like Rachel Bilson. That is weird because of course I think i look nothing like those girls but because theyre beautiful girls i take it as a compliment. They're not forced to come and tell me what they think and then go away. Why would they?

beauty means different things to different people. If someone tells you you're pretty they mean that they think you fit the standard of what is "beautiful" to them, and that standard is different for everyone. Most people wouldn't say that unless they meant it.
Yes I understand that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And good that is nice to hear. I'm way too nice haha I like to tell everyone even if they're not attractive that they're pretty. I think that's a really bad thing lol
I would assume they do. Who's going to go out of their way to tell someone they don't know that they are pretty if they don't mean it? I have had strangers call me pretty and I have also told strangers. I won't tell them anything I don't mean
That is a very good thing :) I have a problem where I'm way too nice and tell people who I don't even think are pretty that they are pretty. Then after I tell them i'm like... wait why did I say that if I don't even think they're pretty?

If you are getting spontaneous compliments from strangers then yes, it's true. Their compliments are sincere and you can believe them. Your are not alone. A lot of attractive people, especially young people, don't know how attractive they are.
Wow thank you :) And yes they are spontaneous, if this counts as spontaneous: We will be talking about something and out of the blue they will just pop the comment and say I'm pretty. We weren't even talking about looks or anything like that and they just said it.
My wife was quite attractive in her teens and twenties and had no idea -- she believed the opposite :-(. I know because I've seen the pictures. She was likely the most attractive girl in her high school class. At her last reunion she was easily the most attractive of her classmates who attended. She didn't appreciate herself until she met me.
That's why I give compliments freely. So many people just don't realize and it makes their day.

Two women made my day the other day! A woman asked me for a cigarette and I said "I don't smoke." These two other women were nearby and one of them said, "I''m so glad you don't smoke. You are too pretty to smoke." Then her friend said, "Yes, you are sooo pretty!"
WOW!!! I was overjoyed. I couldn't believe it. It absolutely made my day.
Anyway, I would usually assume that someone means it, unless they then try to get something out of you, like trying to sell you something or ask a favor of you.
I usually would believe if the compliments are from 3-8 years old kids, especially if the kids are strangers.

Are you saying that adults lie? Even when I don't ask them "Am I attractive" or even if I don't show any signs of being insecure, they will randomly out of the blue tell me.

People that come out and tell you definitely mean it they are telling you what they see. Don't question it just smile and say thank you. You know it is fake if you ask if you look pretty because you are fishing.

I have had strangers tell me I am pretty. I think they mean it unless they're being overly friendly/nice especially if it is an older man. I start to question if they want something from me. I would not question it too much. Just take it for what it is.

Well i am not saying for you but in my case it was for their addiction or they got scammed so tried to scam me. In rare cases strangers want something like the things i mentioned. I am just saying that is the only reason to worry about someone being overly nice. There is a lot of con artists out there (men). Go with your gut if you feel they want something or you feel uncomfortable.

I know this post is really old but i have read a lot of your comments and you keep trying to get validation on a few points... Well for one a stranger never owes you anything and yes even if you only talk to someone for a hour they are a stranger. And they would not gain anythk g from telling you that yojr cute or beautiful. Now i noticed you keep saying that you are not insecure or low slef esteem. Well if thats true then they generally mean what they say. On tbe otber hand if they have spent some time with you 30 mins to a hour sometimes even less some people are really good at pickimg up on some one who has little to no self coincidence and they are probably just sauing it to be nice to boost your confidence and make you more happy to be around. Some people are just good at picking these things up... But i have told people randomly that i dont know they are pretty and i have ment it 80% of the time.

for me, if it is a compliment just accept it graciously but at the same time, dont have attachment to the compliments. if we have, and it turn out in negative way, we would be hurt and disappointed.
so when people compliment me regardless who, i would say thank u and then i move on.

No I'm not Kangy but now I feel bad for her if that's the case. Unfortunately, I myself am finding this through my travels... I'm not sure why guys do this but it's MEAN and not nice. It really lowers my self esteem. I never really thought I'm a super model EVER but no one has ever told me I was so ugly before either the way I'm finding out now.
